This may not help you right now but Lloyd Alvarez from aescripts.com just announced that they are about to release a script called OpenSesame that will allow you to open a CS5 project in CS3 and so on. I don’t know when they’re officially releasing it but he had a working version in the presentation. Maybe if you contact them they’ll help you out.

I totally agree with Todd, those books are hard to beat because they teach you all of the core principles that you really need to know if you want to truly understand After Effects. Video tutorials are great and can teach you a lot, but there’s a reason that most professionals that work with After Effects have read those books–and most of them have read them more than once–myself included.

You just need to add a camera to your comp and choose to auto orient toward the camera, not a path.

Sure, just pre-comp the particles and then time-stretch or time-remap the pre-comp in your main comp and you can make them as fast or slow as you like.

I output a lot of HD Blu-ray files for our media server and found that the quality in CS5 is really bad compared to CS3 with the same settings. Not sure what happened to the encoder in CS5 but I can confirm that it has taken a turn for the worse.

That is a really good and fast way to do a morph. Just tried it out myself and it works great. Thanks for sharing.

Also, check out Harry Frank’s “Super Awesome Presets”. The “inertial bounce” preset will do exactly what you want, I think.

Thanks for the heads up! I only needed one CS5 upgrade but got it for $17 instead of the regular $30.

Never mind, it’s working now. After Effects just locked up for no reason and I had to force quit so I closed all open Adobe apps and restarted them and now the copy/paste path is working. There were several Adobe updates including a couple for photoshop that I ran when I first turned on the system today so I don’t know if that had anything to do with it or not.
