Hey Todd,
I did find that workaround in another thread, it’s just a pain to do when you have a lot of clips, but it’s better than nothing I guess. Glad to know it has been fixed in CS5.5.

The Adobe help says “After Effects imports effects common to Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, and preserves keyframes for these effects. In Adobe Premiere Pro, an After Effects icon in the Effects panel denotes common effects used by both applications.”

Apparently they did not fix it. At least not in CS5 (v5.0.2). Very disappointing. I was so looking forward to that workflow and couldn’t believe that a cross-dissolve, which is the most common transition next to a cut, wouldn’t translate over to AE. Also wondering why they didn’t fix it in CS5.

Hey Chris,
To get the audio to play back from the current position check on “from current time” in the “Preview” panel, which is the panel with all of the RAM preview options.
The only reason I can think that your audio won’t play back in the timeline is either the Preferences>Previews>Audio Preview duration is set to zero instead of the default 1 minute.

Some AE problems can be solved by deleting the preference file.
Restart AE while holding down the Command + Option + Shift keys (Mac) or Control + Alt + Shift (Windows), and you are presented with an option to delete the preferences.

Also, try to remove the plug-in and start AE and see if that’s the problem. If so, try reinstalling it and see if that helps.

I would definitely try the variable bit rate if available and set the max bitrate so at least twice what you have now. If it’s still blocky, increase it some more. Being variable, it shouldn’t increase the file size too much if you set the target rate to what you want, that way it will only increase to a higher rate during parts of the video like the transitions where the image is changing a lot more.

Sounds like you may have your levels set too high in Avid or something because there shouldn’t be any difference in volume levels between the two apps. What is the peak db level in Avid? I would suggest you try to import a music track or something that you know has the levels balanced correctly into a fresh Avid project with default settings and then export it out and test it in AE and compare the db levels.

Try resetting the position of the layers that are clipping because I think the clipping you are seeing may just be the edge of the layer.

It looks like it’s intersecting with the wall. Try scaling and/or moving the train comp to check and if so you may just need to move that wall farther away so it’s not intersecting the train.
