Is there any reason you can’t set your comp frame rate to 60fps? What is the final output format and frame rate going to be?

  • It’s hard to diagnose without know what he is using to view the movie, but if he’s using quicktime he can check that the “use high-quality video setting when available” preference is checked on. By default it is checked off for some reason and can make videos look very badly pixelated. Not sure what he means by seeing the videos “with transparencies” though. See if you can get a screen grab and some more info out of him.

Video Copilot has a good After Effects basic training series to get you started as well:

Could you parent one wheel to the other or parent both wheels to a null and animate that on the path?

I don’t think so, but there’s probably a script that could rename comps in your project after they’re created. I’d check aescripts.com.

When you stabilize footage the motion blur from the camera movement remains. That might be what you are seeing.

I don’t think you can do that with an expression because the font is controlled via the Character palette, which I don’t believe is accessible to expressions. But there is a script that will change the font attributes on aescripts.com. I don’t remember the name of it but just search “text” or “font” and it should come up.

    Hi Victor,
Thanks for the suggestion. What I had in mind was to use the real-time playback capability in Premiere to cut the video and add in some dissolves and placeholder graphics and then export it to After Effects and add the final graphics and effects. I don’t think that doing it the other way around would work very well for my situation but I can see how it might work for some.

I didn’t even know about the blend effect in AE but that seems like it would be very useful – thanks for the tip!
