Glad to hear that was the problem. At least now you know. I’m not sure about QTX because I hate that player and never use it. I guess just try it and see what happens.

I’m not sure exactly what you’re trying to accomplish but could you use the Echo effect on an adjustment layer?

When you pre-comp your 3D layers you can turn on the collapse transformations switch and the layers should return to their original 3D positions. Alternatively, depending on the project, you could pre-comp groups of 2D layers and then just turn on the 3D switch for that pre-comp. The difference is that with the first option the layers inside of the pre-comp remain 3D in the main comp so they can be individually rotated or moved in Z space, but with the second option all of the layers will basically become a flat 2D image that can be rotated or moved in Z space in the main comp as if it is a single 3D layer.

I don’t quite understand what you are doing so it’s hard to say what you’re doing wrong. Could you post some more details?

If you are viewing the rendered videos in quicktime player it could just be the notorious quicktime gamma shift problem, which makes the video look washed out. Try importing the video back into AE or open with another player like VLC and see if it still looks washed out.

Another thing you could try is to see if you can find an alternate version of the font online. Like if it’s a .otf file then maybe try a .ttf version if one exists. Or convert it with a font conversion utility.

You may want to open font book and check if the font is bad by selecting it and going to file>validate font.

Thanks for the info. It’s interesting that you are using USB 3.0 drives for video editing, that’s something I’ve been meaning to try. I have a Western Digital passport that’s very nice but I’ve found the USB 3.0 speeds to fall short of what has been advertised. The burst speeds are pretty fast but it slows down to USB 2.0 speeds during large file transfers that take more than a few seconds. Maybe that wouldn’t be an issue for editing.

Hey Todd, I don’t have CS6 yet, I was just going by Robinson’s post and a couple of threads in a google search that mentioned some changes. If there are no changes then that’s good news! Thanks for the info.

Thanks, Joe. Nice job on the review video. I’m actually trying to get my old system at work upgraded now and was considering a switch from Mac Pro to an HP workstation so this was helpful. Budget is a big concern and the Macs are more expensive, as you would expect, but the fact that they’re slower too kind of tilts the scale in HPs favor even more.
