I’m not sure what could be causing the problem with the fans. I would suggest posting this in a new thread because this one is old and not many people will read it. Also, you will probably need to figure out exactly which fans are involved.

Sorry, not sure what you mean by “permanent ventilation”.

Type “fade” in your Effects & Presets panel search field and you’ll see some presets you can use. One I like is the “Fade In+Out – frames”, which allows you to set the number of frames for the fade and it will automatically adjust the fades if you change the in or out points because it’s expression based. Harry Frank’s Auto Fade preset is really nice because it uses markers on the layer to set the fade duration. This might work better for you because you can hold Shift to snap to the layer’s in/out points and tap the asterisk “*” key to add markers.

  • Hey Mario,
I’m glad you found some things that might work for you. Thanks for posting back about these scripts, I’m sure it will help someone else down the line. Let us know how it goes after you’ve had a chance to test everything out.

If you have a clean plate of the background you can probably use the difference matte effect. Kevin Mcauliffe has a tutorial on the difference matte here on the cow.

  • I’m not sure but if you select the layer and hit UU to reveal all property changes for that layer it might reveal the issue.

Hey Walter, That’s a really interesting expression with some great possibilities. I didn’t know about that one. Thanks for the link.

Hey Erik, Nice name! And spelled correctly too. hehe

No I never figured it out, and to be honest I’m not totally sure I was ever able to click and drag to keyframe multiple properties on more than one layer at a time. Maybe I just thought it used to work that way. You can do one property at a time across multiple layers though.

It should work on effect properties as well, but you have to select the effect name (“glow”, for example) or individual property (“glow radius”, etc.) in each layer. It doesn’t work if you just have the layers selected.

Here’s a free template that I put together that simulates water using the standard built in effects in AE and is great for still images. It simulates waves, not the glitter from the sunlight but you may still find it useful.

Yes, and if that doesn’t do it try cmd/ctrl+shift+H, which is the shortcut to hide/show layer controls and other overlays in the comp viewer.
