If you have a clean plate of the background you can probably use the difference matte effect. Kevin Mcauliffe has a tutorial on the difference matte here on the cow.

The Rotobrush is not exactly rotoscoping but it does require a certain amount of tweaking. The difference matte mentioned before is a good way to go- if you do not have a “clean plate” then you can build one from various frames that combined can create a background without any figures in the foreground.

Rotobrush is good in isolating a subject as Ted has suggested. Just a little bit of tweaking will give you fast and accurate result.
