Turns out that the Pioneer BDR 206 is most likely at fault. It will not work with my external enclosure(NexStar DX) that I bought from Videoguys.com. They want nothing to do with the drive after 30 days and have brushed me off to Pioneer. It appears that the drive that Videoguys.com is selling is highly incompatible with OSX, yet Videoguys.com makes no mention of this, it is all over the Apple.com forums as incompatible for multitudes of reasons ranging from sleep problems to OSX Snow Leopard and Lion incompatibilities. Again no acknowledgement from Videoguys.com about these problems. It appears that OWC knows about these problems and offers a solution.

I used to get most of my mac hardware from OWC and then started using videoguys.com to save a buck. Well no more. I will start using my local VAR for the support they offer, I might spend $20 more for the drive but they will always get me the right stuff and make sure it works correctly.

Hi Mark,
May I ask what speeds you are getting with encore BluRay burning? I have the Sony BD205 and can only get 1x burn speeds from Encore. I have used Verbatim 2x and 4x BluRay media to no effect.

Having erratic encoding and playback issues.

Adobe has removed one of my posts on the Adobe site! They say it has been removed because I should report it as a bug.

What they erased from the forums was a problem where encoding from AME would not be recognized in Encore, requiring another lengthy encode of the whole movie. No help, no nothing, Adobe just removed my post and sent me an email.

Anyway, yes I am having a problem with the latest BluRay where the beginning minute or so plays back fine, then erratically jump-frames around a bit, then has a few freeze frames etc…

Also just had the dreaded “Code 3” failure that doesn’t really mean anything except that I have just made another BluRay coaster.

Yep…most of the lower end CUDA cards are single slot. The thing is, most of those low end cards have full CUDA capability. We just need to make sure that OSX can see them.

I would love this to be the case. Ha…the case! Whatever.

Nope no ducker in Audition. That is a cryin’ shame too. That is a must have for ANY video/audio software. Garageband has one that works. Maybe a VST plug in would work.

Look for a de-esser. That is what it is usually called.

If that doesn’t work, you may want to try pulling down some higher frequencies if it is a really bad “ssssss”.

Here is an answer that might help.

You are looking for a ducker, something like a compressor that has a sidechain input that senses when the VO is active and then lowers the volume. I do not have audition so you will have to look for that.

Look up sidechain compressor

3. If you love ProRes Files, then you work with OSx

What is the advantage of transcoding to Prores if Premiere Pro(and others) allow you to edit the native codec? How would Prores be beneficial in any regard? I would think that it would be better for proxy editing Red files, but doesn’t Premiere Pro edit Red natively now?
