I am 5o years old… been around academics, technocrats, artists, writers, and even worked as a fishing guide from Mexico to Alaska,,, Zelenized or Hyderized, it’s all good… doesn’t change my fiscal constraints… I will work in the lab in my department on the two 30 inch cinema displays, and tough it out on my home kit — my mbp with a lacie 324, and an HP zx24 something something… ( until i can afford the real toys)… love the COW.. i recommend to ALL my students and colleagues.

March 23, 2011 at 5:55 pm in reply to: horizontal lines in dvd

hi and thanks for the reply.. i didnt see it until just now! I imported some 720 X 480 DV footage at 29.97 into FCP. i dont see any flickering in the viewer but when i send it to quik time conversion to make a qtime ( uncompressed) movie, there are flickering lines as you suggest along the edges, and worse when hard edges move.

Even if I just save a fcp ref movie and import into idvd, the lines still appear.

I have tried to exporting in de-interlaced and interlaced forms and it makes little or no difference.

so, basically i have dv footage shot in 720/480 29.97 in an fcp timeline that I would like to make
    a. a small qtime version of and b. a dvd version

once, again, any advice would be appreciated and sorry for the delay in getting back to you.. I have too many email addresses!

    very best

  • thanks for the info….
i was converting it to h264 jusy so i could gety a crisp small version to share with a colleague
not to sure about best formats for conversion
the nature of my thesis research is about the homeless so i often have to use different cams of diff sizes depending on the circumstance… fieldwork and studio stuff differs all the time …sometimes i use my xh1as sometimes a jvc hdg7u and sometimes i am inserting clips from 10 years ago shot a trdv950 sd…
so i guess i will have to use mpeg stream clip as suggested to convert each to a protres(not sure which pro res setting to use)…

as far as concerting.. i need to make 3 products
1 is a dvd burnable version to send to colleagues
one is a fill res qtime i can play off my mbpro in the classroom etc,,
and lastly a web ready version for streaming

i am not a total beginner, but the leap to HDV (hd) is exposing the chinks in my armour!!! if you have more ideas i greatly appreciate it!
    thanks again

August 5, 2010 at 9:17 pm in reply to: importing hdv from new canon to fcp –problems

for some reason I cannot get fcp 7.02 to import the clips from my cam. imoviehd6 does it with no problem, but FCP does two things… with easy set up set for hdv 1080i 60 fcp reads vtr okay but crashes as soon as i hit play or any command on the fcp device control tool bar ( log window) . in easy set up – hdv 10801601 firewire basic, or firewire fcp says vtr okay, can run the camera. but the log and capture windo just shows a frozen image from the clip even though the timecode runs and nothing is actually captured… the clip cannot be viewed in fcp either.

in imoviedhd6 everything seems to work fine… any ideas how to remedy this wold be appreciated
