  • importing hdv from new canon to fcp –problems

hi. I can downlkoad the footgae from my new canon, XH-A1S into imovie hd6 with no problem ( in hdv 60i from camera via firewire 400 to firewire 800 cable) but I cannot the video to import into FCP 7.02. in fcp 7.02 the vtr is ok, and the log and capture window shows a frozen or pixelated image of the clip and will not import, even though external device control is functioning fine.

i am using a new McPro i7 with fcp 7.02 and a new canon XH A1S. if anyone can help me to import the footage into fcp I would apprciate it. I find it curious that the footage imports seamlessly into imovihd6 but i have probs with fcp 7.02

    thanks

Did you choose the proper Easy Setup before you tried to capture? You need to choose the HDV 1080i60 Easy setup. Then open LOG AND CAPTURE.

for some reason I cannot get fcp 7.02 to import the clips from my cam. imoviehd6 does it with no problem, but FCP does two things… with easy set up set for hdv 1080i 60 fcp reads vtr okay but crashes as soon as i hit play or any command on the fcp device control tool bar ( log window) . in easy set up – hdv 10801601 firewire basic, or firewire fcp says vtr okay, can run the camera. but the log and capture windo just shows a frozen image from the clip even though the timecode runs and nothing is actually captured… the clip cannot be viewed in fcp either.

in imoviedhd6 everything seems to work fine… any ideas how to remedy this wold be appreciated

#44: FCP acting weird – Trash Prefs

Shane’s Stock Answer #44: FCP acting weird or unusual. Just not like is normally should

If the program was working fine, and now isn’t, or just isn’t working the way it should, the first things to do are:

    1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion: https://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm

    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html

    2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.

    3) Shut down for 10 min. Go for a quick walk around the block and get SOME exercise today. Come back, turn on the computer and see how things are.

    4) (optional) Do the Hokey Pokey and turn your self about. Results may vary.
