Your “0”db peaks are too high. As Richard noted, it’s most likely -6 peaks that they are looking for. As a point of reference, normal broadcast standards in the U.S. are tone at -20 nothing hotter than

I think part of the problem is that there is no absolute standard of what meter readings mean. It’s like temperature readings in farenheight or centergrade or speed in mph or kph We accept “0” as the digital maximum but how it’s measured is the problem.
I think that using a voltage scale would be a better way. “0” is .775 volts ac, +4 is 1.23 volts ac. I’m sure that somewhere there is a volts to DB conversion table. The problem would be to get everyone to switch over to a simple universal standard.

I set my tx/rx at -20 and do any gain adjusting on the mixer. 20/20 is a good place to start.

You’re going into the 302 at mic level so set the receiver output to -20 not “0”. “0” level into a mic input will cause major distortion issues. If you keep the levels on your 302 between “0” and +10 the camera & the Fostex will show -20 to -10.
From what you’ve described above, you’re feeding the Fostex at mic level. I would suggest you feed the Fostex at line level rather than mic level as the mic pre’s on the Fostex are ok they dont match the 302’s mic pre’s. You’ll need to have the feed cable from the 302 terminate in a 1/4″ unbalanced configureation for line level input to the Fostex. If you’re not sure how to make an unbalanced connection let me know and I’ll walk you through it.
To monitor both sources, unless there’s a “B” camera return on the 302 you’re going to have to unplug from the 302 and plug into the Fr2LE. Note that the HP amp on the Fostex is ok but not great.

For talkback to the talent a small self powered speaker with a mic input would work fine. Look at the Behringer MS-16. For monitoring before recording get a Sound Devices Mix Pre, feed the studiomic into it and take the seperate outputs and feed one to your recording system and the other out put into another powered speaker in the control room.

Why not look into relocating the editing bay to another part of the office and then get portable office room dividers.

Any lav mic can be wired for a 3.5 mm plug and work with the G2/3. I would look at the Countryman EMW lav’s. A lot better sounding than the ME2. Make sure that whatever new lav you get that it’s wired with a locking 3.5mm connector.
