  • Exposed wire headphones have been used for milleniums in the field with out problems. You worry to much. Learn to take better care of your gear. BTW how would you get a signal into the HP”s without a wire and don’t say wireless.

While a “Y” connector is a good idea and assuming 48v phantom is needed then you have to be sure that 48v phantom is only activated on one input not both.

I assume you mean all 4 from B&H? I find that hard to believe. Have you tried any of the suspect cables in another system. Have you tried an xlr cable not from B&H? Would you explain the setup you’re using that’s causing you problems? Perhap’s it’s not the cable but some interconnect or settings issue.

I assume other cables work fine with the same setup?

Could be a break internally but who knows? Run a continuity test with a multi-meter and see if the pin to pin wiring is the same on both ends. See if you can return it for a replacement if required.

Plugging direct into the camera is a bad idea. There’s no way to adjust levels on the fly as you can with a mixer feeding the camera. If that’s what you end up doing be sure the camera is set for mic level & 48v phantom if your mic requires it. Good luck.

It’s the soldering in the XLR connector that causes the cutting out. Buy Canare cable & Neutrik connectors and build your own if you know how to solder.

If all you’re supplying is a pole & a mic, take the money and run if you can get it. You can’t do a professional job as a mixer with just a pole & mic. What else are you supplying?

Don’t be wigged out. I’ve bought all of my top line mics used. B&H should have some kind of testing period & or warrenty. Buy the mic and don’t sweat it.

    Richard,

It’s to create the illusion that the interviewer is NOT in the same room. I’ve worked on those type of setups and that’s what I was told by production when I asked the same question.
