  • You can’t go wrong with the Countryman EMW available in colors and frequency responses.

Definately use the 10db pad and back the mic away from the talent. What other mics do you have, a dynamic perhaps?

Lower the mic input trim level to give you more headroom. A greater distance between the talent & the mic will help alot as will turning the mic away from the talent or visa versa.

What he’s saying is that he has two transmitters & one receiver all on the same frequency. The groom has tx #1 & the officiant has tx #2. The receiver is connected to the Zoom recorder. The confusion comes from calling a transmitter (tx) a lav mic.

You can’t have two transmitters feeding one receiver on the same frequency and expect to pick up two signals. You’ll need another transmitter & receiver on a different frequency to pick up both people. It’s as simple as that.

Nice track Noah, well done & good example of how to eliminate wind noise from a lav.

There is no magic mic that will eliminate street noise. That’s not a sound problem, it’s a location issue. What are you connecting the lav mic to? A good all around mic would be the Countryman EMW at around $200 or so. You’ll need a windscreen to eliminate some wind sounds or you can bury the mic under clothing to shield it.

OTOH for outdoor interviews nothing beats the Electrovoice RE50, the standard in hand held on camera mics.

  • They are referring to not feeding the BX5a from a power amplifier or any power amp output to feed a passive speaker. You could drive the BX5a from your ipod HP out with no problem. It’s pretty good system but really needs a small subwoofer to make it rock.

  • Leave it on and don’t worry about it. Better to have whatever protection it offers than not. Don’t worry about whatever minimal frequency response change it may impart, no one but you will ever know or care.

  • Don’t be locked in to a set level on the speakers. Turn up the the level in the speakers until it sounds “true.” You can run those speakers to ear shattering levels from a HP output.
