They sound better & less fatiguing to listen to than the 7506 which makes everything sound compressed. They are more comfortable to wear for long periods and they have a straight cable, not the “gets tangled up in everything” coily cable.

For all day use I would choose the Ultrasone HFI 680. I dumped the Sony 7506 as soon as I heard the 680’s about 5-6 years ago and never regretted the change. Expect to pay about $200 for the 680’s.

The Rode video mic appears to take a 9v battery for power so yes it will work with the Beachtek with the proper connecting cable.

Based on the pictures you posted of a bedroom with a lot of hard reflective surfaces I would at least try to hang some blankets around the area you’ll be working in. The E6 will help a lot due to it’s close placement to your mouth. Do a test w/o blankets and work up from there as required.

Sorry Peter but the E6 is a voice recording mic designed for less than perfect enviroments and that’s how I’ve used it on many projects. After post gets finished doing their thing it sounds just fine in the intended application. Most likely the OP has the omni capsule which is perfect for the described situation.

Using the Countryman E6 “earset” will do wonders in eliminating the sound of the room. Putting a blanket over your head is fraught with problems such as ventilation, illumination, etc, etc. Try your setup with the E6 and see what the results are. I think you’ll find you can leave the blankets in the closet.

Not being able to understand dialog in a film is not any mixers fault or decision. If you have to point that finger at someone point it at the director who has final say as to the mix balance.
A long time ago I learned that you mix on the best monitors available to you. Trying to adjust your mix for every possible type of playback system is fraught with frustration.

There is no reason to record audio at 16/96 in fact it doesn’t make sense. Tell him you want the tracks at 24/48 and be done with it.
