There’s no button, it’s buried deep in a submenu in the picture adjustment menu. Like any TV these days, it’s all menu driven with no physical controls which makes adjustment a hassle of course.

It’s a 40 inch Consumer LCD model LN40A550 (I think many of the higher end Samsungs include the feature). It looks as good as a sub $1000 consumer TV can look but obviously has all the dynamic contrast and extra processing going on which makes me wonder if it could even remotely work as a monitor. I’d rather have something smaller in the production suite anyway.

I havent hooked my NLE into it as it’s in a different room from my production suite. My EX3 will only connect via analog component (damn, no HDMI out) and there’s no way to get scopes onto it to verify color accuracy.

In the picture adjustment menus of the T260, is there any option for a “blue only” mode.

I have a Samsung A500 series LCD TV that has has a blue only mode (never seen one on a consumer TV before) though I haven’t hooked it up to my edit system since I lack the proper HDMI output card. I don’t know if that feature is found in their less expensive and smaller monitors.

I’ve always wondered just how accurate the consumer TV could be in that mode if fed a decent HDMI signal or if anybody’s tried to calibrate it without running it through a box like the MXO2.

Clip Browser sees all the files and plays the uncorrupted portions of them, as well as combining all segments together, but obviously will not convert to any Quicktime friendly format, nor will it convert to MXF or DV through the export command.

XDCAM transfer will not allow me to select and import any section of the problem clips, even if most of the video in them is fine. Constant preview errors and a constantly greyed out import button.

Does the IOHD have any kind of calibration tool (ala the MXO) that would allow you to calibrate a Cinema Display or similar full HD monitor for color work or would you have to spring for one of those pricy Pro LCDs?

The MXO is a neat device, but it’s output only. I have a lot of legacy SD footage, much of it historical in nature and not available in any HD form that I’ll have to integrate with HD in the future. How is the quality of the IOHD’s upconversion capability vs. software uprezzing.

I guess I’m asking about the 20 inchers in general. I guess they could display 720P in 1:1 (with a lot of wasted screen real estate or upscaled images) but 1080i would be scaled down to fit the panel’s resolution. I couldn’t tell if he was talking about scaling problems or if the problems related to color, black levels or any other factors.

  • Just an update. Tried capturing through 6.0.2 with Firewire Basic NTSC and though the sync slippage was less, it was still there.

Then captured using my archived copy of 6.0.1 (I’m smart enough to back up my old versions when I install new ones) and captured 1 hour and 20 minutes in sync. No other system components were changed so I have to believe that the problem is somewhere in the latest FCP update.

I know there are people having problems with sync on multiclips on the latest version too so there is a definite problem here.

Could you go into a little more detail about what you’re seeing (or not seeing) that makes this monitor so bad and is that typical of any of the 20 inch monitors that have to scale down full rez HD. I’ve heard people talk about scaling artifacts but I’ve always wondered just how evident they really are in real life.

I’m also interested of your opinion of the new JVC LCDs if you’ve seen them.

Gotta remember the basics. Trashing preferences got everything back for me. Haven’t had to do that with Boris for awhile. Thanks for the info on the updates though, I didn’t realize they were available.

I’ve already been aware of that and had checked for Arial and the other Microsoft fonts. Does anybody know of any cheap utilities to scan for and fix corrupt fonts? All the tools I seem to be finding cost $70-100 and I’d rather not blow that much on such a limited application.
