Never mind, it turns out that if I exported from FCP as “QT movie” instead of “QT conversion”, the problem went away. (using Prores422 (HQ))
Seems to be ok, although I don’t understand why.. but I don’t really care as long as it works…Kind regards,

You’re absolutely right. I’m not going to go off on a rant here, but it has to do with an incompetent vendor who I’ve been arguing with for weeks, and my bosses told me to back off and let him set up the system the way he wants. It’s a long story, but suffice it to say that I’m very glad that you posted that it makes no sense with that setup! Thanks!

When you say “..you should go ahead and do it as HD.”, you mean I should export it from a HD sequence/timeline..? If that’s the case, then that’s exactly my thought also, but someone told me I need to keep these settings, and there won’t be any quality loss.
Thanks again,

Thanks for your reply,
Not sure if I’m describing my question properly, or maybe I don’t understand your answer. I know that the original clip won’t lose it’s quality. What I’m doing is more specific this: I have 2 movies delivered to me as uncompressed avi 1920×1080. I need to make one single new movie with the 2 clips back-to-back, and they need to be ProRes422 (HQ) 1920×1080. I drop the 2 uncompressed HD avi clips into the SD 720×576 anamorphic 16:9 timeline, I set an In and an Out point in the timeline, and select the clips. (I have not rendered the timeline). I then do an export with Quicktime conversion to Prores422 (HQ) 1920×1080. Will the resulting movie of the 2 clips back-to-back now be at a lesser quality because it was exported from a SD timeline, or will it be just as good as if I had exported from a HD timeline?
Kind regards,

Yeah, that’s what I figured, but just wanted to check to make sure.

Thanks for everone’s input!
I’ve solved the issues I had, and I’m liking the program very much! (I’ll be using PlayBackPro Plus). I’m still unsure about a few things:
1. Is it possible to set a duration for a still? I’ve figured out that you can set a still to freeze, and also check “link” on it, so that all you need to do is hit Return/Take to jump to the next item in preview. But what if I want a still to stay on the screen for 10 seconds, and then the next item in preview takes automatically?
2. Similar question as the first one: Is it possible to have a video freeze on the last frame, and stay frozen on that frame for 10 seconds, and then automatically the next item takes?
3. Is it possible to freeze video only, but audio keeps playing? Or do we simply have to make our clips ahead of time with the video freeze?
4. Any possibility to do more advanced transitions than dissolves? Could I key an animated graphic overlay over a cut between 2 clips, or in any other way do something a little sexier transition than a dissolve?
I’m probably wishing for too much here, but since I don’t know the program that well yet, I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask…

Downloaded demo, and I like it! I am a little concerned however, that the company still hasn’t responded to my 2 emails.. Is this the kind of support response I can expect? I have a bunch of questions, especially concerning hardware setup. If we buy it, we’ll be running it from a MacBook Pro, OSX 10.6.3, 4 Gb RAM, 2.53 Ghz Intel Core Duo, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M. Do we have to get an external dual screen device like the Matrox DualHead2Go.. I don’t seem to be able to run fullscreen mode with the hardware I have now…

Thanks for your suggestion!
Looked at it, but doesn’t seem to have a timeline layout like I’m used to from NLE’s..? If you have a link to an image of how their timeline looks, I could look at that, but as I mentioned earlier.. the timeline is a preference, not a requirement and I’m sure I’ll be able to adapt to a different interface. But I appreciate your input!

Thanks again, about to download the demo.

BTW, do you know if Playback Pro buffers upcoming video clips so the playback will start immediately? This is an intermittant problem in FCP, sometimes the video starts playing immediately, and sometimes it won’t start until several seconds after we hit the spacebar (play). Since we sometimes will be just running cameras through our physical switcher, we’ll have to stop playback of video clips several times during the event. It is then crucial that once we’re ready to start playback of video again, it starts when it’s supposed to. I’ve seen other software that has the buffering feature. I sent this question directly to the Playback Pro technical dept, but I haven’t received an answer yet.
