There is a solution in the works from Matrox, but it will be relatively pricey:

Unfortunately, neither of these quite accomplishes what I need, even though the blurring helped a little. So it’s starting to look like I’m going to have to manually adjust my mask (I’ll probably delete quite a few vertices in the process). Bummer, but I’ll probably get it done in an hour or so.

First, if you know that all your pics are going to be the same length, you can set a length for imported still images in “edit – preferences – import”. Your choices are length of comp or a defined length, i.e. 2 frames or whatever you want. Then you don’t have to adjust the length in the timeline (if each pic will be a different length, you’ll have to adjust it anyway).
Second, you can sequence the layer in the timeline in the order you want by ctrl-selecting all the pics in the project window IN THE ORDER YOU WANT THEM TO BE IN THE TIMELINE, drag them to the timeline, right-click on one of the selected layers while they’re all selected, go to keyframe assistant – sequence layers. Then the pics will be sequenced in the timeline in the order you selected the earlier.
Third, if you are animating all the pics the same way, you can either save an animation preset on one and apply it to the others, or use expressions to avoid creating a new set of keyframes for each layer. How you automate the animation kinda depends on how you want to animate. 🙂

Well, this might not be the most elegant way to do it, but it will work if I have understood correctly your specific situation:
Copy your position keyframes from the first object.
Create a new temporary layer and create a mask (just one maskpoint will do).
Paste the position data in the mask shape property, and you’ll have a new mask which is shaped like your first objects motion path.
Apply the stroke effect to this mask, and adjust the spacing of the stroke so you’ll have a row of dots. The smaller the dots, and the closer the dots are to each other, the more accurate your result will be, but you must be able to count the dots.
Count the dots and write down the number. For simplicity, lets say you have 100 dots.
Copy the position keyframes of your second object, and repeat the whole process, but instead of applying a new stroke effect, copy the previous stroke effect so your dot size and spacing will be identical.
Count the dots in this second stroke, for simplicity lets say you now have 25 dots.
Now you calculate the ratio of the length of the 2 paths, in this simplified example one is exactly 4 times as long as the other (100/25=4).
Now go back to your animated objects and stretch your position keyframes in the timeline so that one needs 4 times as long to complete its motion as the other one. The speed should be the same now for the 2 objects. You can get rid of the temporary layers now.
Basically you calculate the ratio between the 2 motion path lengths, and use that ratio to apply the time needed for the objects to complete their path.
Hope this will work for your situation. Like I said, it’s not an elegant way to do it, but it’ll work! Maybe someone has an easier way..Kind regards,
