Just ordered two empty Pegasus 2 4-Bay TB2 enclosures.
We have a few Mac Pro’s that have extra SATA drives to use.
I also successfully placed a few Apple Internal SSDs onto a Sonnet Tempo PCI SSD card which sits in a Magma ExpressBox 3RT chassis.
Have to remove the SSDs from the Apple SSD frame/rail system.
With the new Mac Pro’s, we needed to find homes for all them extra drives.

We (at a corporate level) got into 4K back in 2009 with our RED MX.
I for one love it since it really helped with my workflow (Maya and After Effects).
We were stuck with Avid MC and had to learn and re-learn the AMA battles.
In the end we got good at it but with recent FCPX/Premiere Pro workflow as well as Resolve, I myself drifted from Avid.
Perfect timing since I went and dipped into the RED Cool-Aid back in Oct 2012 with the BT-Scarlet 🙂
Most of our projects are Corporate and Digital Signage.
My personal is fun and more fun with eventual real work like shorts and music vids.
I guess I can honestly say that we/I were in full 4K mode around when FCPX finally started to work for us/me.
We will still shoot high and deliver low (DVD being the lowest) but our corporate level deliverables are HD and up (future Christie Microtiles installations) even the web is HD.
There is no looking back now, even though we are still an Avid facility first everything else piece meal.
We are not holding our breath on Avid but we are at least ready for anything 4K and up.

You would think but its a very BIG world out there so I wouldnt think thats the norm.

We are all professionals here and welcome any tips that help our daily lives easier in this field.
Anyone test the Nightflight AE file on a nMP?
I have to find mine (lost in server land) but not sure if it makes sense in this case.
What are people using to benchmark FCPX?
My tests are all Black Magic Disk Speed Utility driven.
I live in R3D world so Im always trying to play catch up to our ROCKET.

First test with our nMP (same specs as originator) was awesome off the desktop.
R3Ds are all 6:1 and cache a bit at FULL DEBAYER.
However at HALF its perfect, no waiting at all.
This is all from REDCINE of course no chance to test FCPX yet.
Ultimately we are testing the nMPs with a Magma ExpressBox 3T and ROCKET, Sonnet Tempo SSD Pci (dual Crucial 960GB SSD RAID) sometime tomorrow.
Ive tested with smaller SSDs and were getting wicked MBs from Black Magic Speed Utility.
No where near the internal drive of course (920 MBs avg.).
The nMP is one piece of amazing tech 🙂

Implemented a D500/6-Core/32GB first (D700/12-Core/64GB waiting) and can honestly say…DAMN THESE ARE FAST!!!!

My tests are R3Ds with or without ROCKET.

The internal 500GB drive was avg. 900 MBs so getting half debayer in real time and decent at Full in REDCine.

Other tests are Magma ExpressBox 3T w/ROCKET and Sonnet Tempo SSD PCI card.

I cant wait to test the full blown spec system 🙂

I too suggest getting the D700 even though I havent tested it yet.

Maybe with the Mac Pro the intention was simple since you have plenty of other ports.
The rMBP is limited so why not give each a dedicated lane.
