Hardware encoders are pretty much in the past. MPEG Stream clip is good for what you want.

Maybe they use a set top recorder and dint finalise it? Is there a VIDEO_TS folder on there?

Yes….almost all PAL players worldwide will play NTSC discs. There are a few exception models which I dont have in front of my right now. The only issue you might run into is if someone has an older TV
Gawd! You you imagine what would happen if people in Hong Kong and Singapore couldnt watch their pirated NTSC discs? 🙂 Not that all pirated stuff is NTSC but a large majority of it is.
I personally have at least 300K NTSC units Ive authored floating around Europe with no issues.
Make sure your regions are Open. Remember when the Predident presented a disc to the PM which didnt play? The region settings were wrong. 🙂

Ask the replicator for “check discs” for before the final run. This is not an option. Check them on as many players as possible

The DVD you buy are done by seasoned professionals with very expensive equipment so you wont match their work.
You’ll need to google some tutorials and read the Encore manual unfortunately. There’s just way too much to cover in your question.
You will first need to down convert your HD to 720×480 16×9 anamorphic. From here you can encode with Media Encoder. Make sure you keep your bitrates under 8 mb/s and use AC3 audio

I think it would be a good idea to have someone with experience look or write the DDP images for you. Encore isn’t used much in profesionL DVD authoring environments much and this is a good example why.
Also, youre shooting in the dark here without knowledge of what a layer break is and what is required for delivery.
I’ve just seen too many horror stories not to say something 🙂

DVD is NTSC and PAL only.
Actually PAL-M is a derivative of NTSC so deliver that. Remember NTSC plays on almost all player worldwide.
