Smart move by Adobe! $400 for Premiere Pro w/Encore + Flash Media Encoder or $400 for FCPX w/Motion + Compressor. Or $850 for Production Premium w/Photoshop & After Effects or $995 for Avid Media Composer w/Boris Continuum & Sorenson Squeeze. Decisions.

They did it on the audio side last year with Pro Tools 9. If they’re smart they’ll do it on the video side with an update to Media Composer 5.5 and soon.

These are the requirements to apply and you must meet every single criteria:
– An expert in Final Cut Pro. We are looking to upgrade to FCP X…any knowledge of this would be very helpful.
– Be able to work in an extremely fast, high energy, fun environment.
– An expert in different video formats and the MAC OS X environment.
– Be able to edit on the fly, EXTREMELY fast when asked to turn around a job.
– Have general knowledge of celebrities.
– Work very organized and follow edit bay’s organizational system.
– You must be creative. We don’t want to spoon feed you when asking for a clip. You need to be able to understand on quick directions and turn the job around FAST.
– Our videos are very high energy and fast (average video is around 1 minute). Make sure you can cut a quick clip and not lose the audience.
– Have transportation to get to the office.

Thanks for the video links Kevin…I’ll check them out tonight! I agree with Stephen…I’d like to see some aggressive crossgrade ala carte packages & pricing from ADOBE. For example, how about a Premiere + Encore + Photoshop + MediaEncoder bundle for those of us who don’t need/want After Effects or Encore + Photoshop + MediaEncoder bundle for those of us who just want to author Blu-Ray discs. Another thing Adobe could/should do is offer a Rental Credit for those who choose to buy an App/Suite after renting it for a specifc project. If I were AVID I would do what they did with Pro Tools 9 last year and open it up to all 3rd Party Video I/O’s (AJA, BMD etc.) with full I/O functionality asap. That would be a real “game changer”. They could also offer the $1k deal to Pro Tools users and throw in a “Avid MC 5.5 for Final Cut Users” Training DVD for free!

How does Adobe’s Media Encoder compare to Compressor in terms of stability, encoding speed, picture quality & format options? What about Avid options?

Avid’s Media Composer seems to have more built-in “Pro” Audio features IMO with some borrowed Pro Tools functionality, plug-ins and seamless PT file exchange if you’re working with outside Pro Audio guys. Adobe’s Audition seems to be a little more STP-like DIY App…hopefully more stable. Also has OMF/XML for Pro Tools file exchange. Either way you’ll be have much better audio editing/mixing than exists in the V1 of FCPX. Heck you can’t even export audio to Pro Tools or Logic without a $500 3rd party plugin right now.

Very astute move by Avid (50% discount for FCP users), especially if Apple fails to deliver with the new Final Cut version.

No Peter…I have a MCU Pro + XT (16 faders) and run Pro Tools w/CPTK in HUI mode, as well as Logic for Music Composition. Works well enough for VO/ADR but the HUI protocol plug-in controls are limited. Would love to be able to upgrade one day to the c|24 now that Avid is adding EuCon support. BTW: I’m in Burbank, CA.
