Emphasis here on MULTIPLE layers. Must it be pre-comped?? 🙁

Would it make sense to jump back and forth between Illustrator and AE and have it hot-sync?

September 4, 2013 at 3:37 am in reply to: Bridge: doesn’t respond to mouse wheel

OK, very aggravating and KNOWN problem:

If BRIDGE is on a 2ndary monitor to the left of the main monitor, the scroll wheel (often) does not work.

On the main monitor, Brige+scroll works fine.

Very very annoying, and known to adobe for at least a month.

If you’d like to move this bug up in the queue, go to the following link and +1 it, thanks:

July 24, 2013 at 2:28 am in reply to: LoopOut(“cycle”) on Mask Path– fail!?!?

Dan, thanks so much for your time!!!

It seems I’m still not grokking how one simply/easily saves an Expression for later use (actually saving is easy– doing it in a productive way, not as easy): this time when I saved it as an Animation Preset, it saved the associated Mask along with it. Not so useful, but interesting.

Is there a way to add to the “right arrow expression Library” that is alongside the Expressions line? Putting these various new Looping tools all in one place would really make this conceptually easier, when it falls out of my memory a week from now. >8^(

    >;^)

Thanks again for your indispensable help!

  • No, not a broken outline. Just a bunch of unconnected lines, using Shape Layers.

One CAN do it, but getting the Pen Tool to NOT make connected lines/polys is the sticking point here. Currently it’s so awkward I’m assuming I’m doing it wrong.

  • And before someone says “use the Brush Tool”, I’m trying to draw guidelines below another layer, and so I don’t want to have to work in a Layer Panel, because I need to see portions of the other layer.

(Feature request: allow the various tools that currently need to be applied in a Layer panel to work within a comp panel– modes are OK.)

  • Maybe not: since, for example, the FONT is not an animatable property, you cannot simply pickwhip it.

  • Nahhh, I’m looking more for a slave/clone situation, where a layer will imitate ALL the parameters of the master, except for those you disable (on the premise that it’s easier to disable a few than link dozens).

For this particular task I needed one text layer to have a fill, and an identical one to have NO fill.

If this were being art-directed, NO DOUBT the ‘creative’ would repeatedly change font, kerning, etc, which makes just duplicating the layer impossible. It would be a huge PITA. But a slave layer would follow everything BUT the Fill setting, so you could tweek to your heart’s content.

Hmmmm…. I think you could just set this up ONCE as an AEP, and IMPORT the AEP to get this particular arrangement of layers. Then you just need access to that AEP.

When you solve a problem like that, be assured you are NOT the only one who has run into it (most like dozens of people have the same issue), so it’s helpful to your colleagues here if you give a quick “Solved it, here’s how!” comment to your own post.

EG, right off hand I can’t remember how to do this, and I clicked on your post NOT knowing, so I’d find the answer interesting!
