GPU acceleration is a memory hog both with system ram and vram because of how it works. Effects just add on to it showing a memory shortage quicker. 1GB of Vram with 8 GB of system ram is not really enough for allot of workflows with acceleration.

What drive does the current media reside on and what drive are you rendering to? Are these internal or external?

Right now Open CL is definitely not faster than CUDA in any application that has both. I am not sure where you read that but that is absolutely incorrect. I would suggest you set it to CUDA if you want better performance. Nvidia GPU’s also do not work as well with Open CL as they do CUDA BTW.

With the current configuration limitation of the coming Mac Pro, it definitely cannot have more processing power than PC options since there are no Dual Xeon options and no option to clock at higher frequency. Open CL currently does not perform as well as CUDA because the memory management has not been refined nearly as much. Since Davinci will use any threading available for most codecs used with that application and Nvidia has better performance I would not suggest a coming Mac Pro when centered around Davinci. Keep in mind Blackmagic people are continuing to recommend the Titan cards over any others right now.

Cineform is the best option. Pro Res and DNxHD would be the next with DNxHD better on Windows now with CC.

Then the 12 Core 2697 V2’s are the choice for AE and definitely the choice for 4D. 4D is all about threading and ram. The more threads you have the exponentially faster the export time. AE will thread provided you have enough ram to feed that many threads. 128GB will be enough. 700W PSU is not strong enough for that system. You want a 1000W here especially with a Titan or 780Ti. Alex is referencing the 780Ti and not the 780. There is a big difference there. The Ti has less ram than the Titan which is very important for 4K frames and up but more ram bandwidth which is very important for GPU acceleration period. This is really hard to choose but most of the time the 780Ti is the choice.
Remember USB3 has a much higher latency than internal Sata. E-sata and USB3 are 15 to 17ms while internal sata drives are 6 to 10ms on average. SSD’s are 40 to 55 microseconds. This will be a slow down point for ram preview if your media is extensive or series of stills as most will be coming from 4D. I would not suggest this.

SSD Drives have a far better latency than mechanical drives so the 10K drives cannot be faster. The files were located on the raid 0 before and what are located now on the SSD?

The 780M works fine with either. Now whether the 10.9 bugs have been cleaned up yet, I cant say.
