New System – Cores vs Processor Speed
OK, so I’m dipping my toes in the waters of heading back to Windows land from my current MacPro 2008. I’ve read as many threads as I can find on this board about new systems and still have a couple of questions.
This machine will be for After Effects and Cinema 4D. I’m probably going to keep my MacPro for content/video editing when I do it, but the majority of my work is motion graphics.
I have a guy who is pitching me to build this machine:
2x Intel Xeon E5-2697 v2 Ivy Bridge-EP 2.7GHz LGA 2011 130W 12-Core Server Processors
ASUS Z9PE Motherboard
128 GB DDR3 REG ECC System Memory
480 GB SSD DRIVE
Black Quiet Tower
Nvidia GTX Titan
700 Watt Power Supply
LG Blu-Ray Drive
Windows 7 or 8
USB 3.0 Interface Card
E-SATA External Interface ConnectionMy question is this.
Should I go for more cores, or a faster processor with fewer cores?
Like this CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2687W v2 Ivy Bridge-EP 3.4GHz
I’ve been using RenderBooster and Multi-Machine frame rendering with good success. Still trying to figure out how to max out my current machine or any future machine.
Thoughts and suggestions are always welcome.
