Cuda in general normally performs better than Open CL right now in applications where both are used. CUDA has far more development time behind it especially memory management. Open CL has a very long development timeframe a head to mature. Don’t expect that gap to close completely anytime soon. Only Vegas has been better Open CL based versus Cuda which like everything else Sony does is backwards.

Yes DNG requires close to the same processing that Red does though the bit rate on DNG is much higher.

The Asio and WDM mentioned there is the Audio driver. Asio is the Pro Audio based driver module type and WDM is Windows Audio. OSX uses Core Audio which is a completely different implementation. You have something wrong with your audio files. Check any effects on the audio or make sure your sample rate for the comp matches the audio media sample rate.

No it cannot playback Full Res at 4K or 5K nor can any other software right now other than Redcine X Pro with the GPU debayering. The latency for processing the 4k and 5K red media is just to long right now until the debayering goes GPU side. However my 12 Core 2697 V2 Xeon on an X79 with a 770GTX 4GB card can playback 1/2 resolution easy. If you got the 8 or 10 Core you probably could then though I am sure the 10 Core could have.

Those are AMD cards though. I would assume the Open CL support is native to the AMD drivers.

  • I have not tested Resolve on that exact Asus board but the P9X79 Pro version and it works fine on that. No reason it wouldn’t work fine on the Regular version if the Pro works. The P9X79 has a PCI slot which is pointless for video and 1 less 16X slot which would be important for expansion. That is why it is a much better fit for audio than video. It also has less Sata ports so that was another reason we didn’t use it for video. Keep in mind if you can afford the Asrock Extreme 9 or the Asus WS version then you would be able install E5 V2 Xeons into that board. That is a big deal if you get over 1080 media later.

  • I run a E5-2697 V2 12 Core Xeon with a 770 4GB card. That handles 4K at half resolution fine. Yes we use the P9X79 here for audio systems so I am very familiar with it. Doesn’t have the best slot layout for Video so we use something else. I would also suggest you only get another 760GTX card or higher if you get a 2nd card. Don’t bother with a lower card with Davinci.

Definitely not going to get Full resolution playback of 4k or 5K with any application right now other than Redcine X Pro with the GPU Debayer. However 16GB of ram is really low for a 8 Core system and 4K+ media with 2x GPU’s to feed data. I highly recommend you take that to 64GB if you really want to make any real use of those D700’s and the 8 Core chip. 32GB of ram would still be to small if the D700’s were ever really pushed with 1 CPU which right now is not going to happen. However applications change and as they do that may change as well.

Media Encoder has a separate list last I checked so you would need to enable that GPU for the hardware acceleration on export.

What happens if you render to PNG or another sequence of still format?
