    yeah,

we have one dualcore 2,3 Ghz running with the Kona LHe.
    Works like a charm though.
Do as chrispy suggested & install and run FCP once before you install the kona drivers.

I really would like to know if even a pro could tell the difference between using component and SDI or HDMI using that monitor. anybody tried this at home?

Render an uncompressed timeline in FCP on your macpro and see only 30% cpu-power used.
Who needs 8 cores just to watch them sleeping away?

    Thanks,

the test-results at barefeats are rather puzzeling. I want to use the internal raid for video, with a separate, single bootdrive. Backup will be done on other external drives. The machine will be used mainly for SD work. So I guess raid 0 will be ok. If we plan to do any serious HD we will investigate in a G Speed or a caldigit.
Bummer, that a Mac pro with 4 internal drive bays has no raid-ability at that price point.

You can do that with premiere more or less the same way

  • Also: In Video-Settings/ Device Control > Set Audio channels to 4
The Kona defaults to 2 AFAIK
Uncheck downmix in the audio mixer window

I guess you want to encode for web or dvd with pro coder. Then try exporting to an uncompressed codec. Pro coder should be able to deal with it. (but think about a workflow to get your file to the PC first)
Or try staying in the Studio Suite and use compressor, but it is definitly not as good as pro coder.
Why are you working with the intermediate codec anyway? Its crap and you can work HDV native with final cut hd.
