I have and amd (phenom2 x4) and the same chipset clabart has (Clabart, we know each other via videomakers, i’m billy).
My intensity shuttle works. So, it’s not as Darren says.
the usb3 chipset is the same that is present in many motherboard today, especially for AMD (i think all the 770 and up series of asrock has it).
It is the renesas/nec usb3 chipset.Clabart, to see if it works, open control panel and see if it’s connected. If you launch blackmagic control center (in control panel) without the intensity plugged, it won’t allows to change parameters (“no settings required”)
After that, you should pick the right values for input (hdmi / svideo etc) and launch media express or any other software you use for editing (i use it inside media composer). Please note that you should set the project to hd 50i pal, otherwise the shuttle don’t recognise your signal (i’m talking of your exact case, if you were in NTSC land it would be different) and everything is black. If you want to, you can drop a mail to street chiocciola libero punto it, obviously in italian 😀

February 16, 2012 at 4:42 pm in reply to: Advise needed regarding file naming, AMA transcoding and finaly upgrading qualityAnna, problems arise when you’re near the end of the work, never on tests 😀
and, you’re looking not to a relink, but to a batch import.
If you link to ama and then transcode to – say – dnxhd120 (or 185, i usually use 185 with 7d) you don’t have other media to relink. If you transcode a 120 to 185 and then relink, you are only going to have higher space occupied in the drives, as the “starting media” for the transcode is the 120, not the original ama linked media.
So, you have 2 options: relink to the original media (a pain, in fact, often you’ll have headaches for it) or batch import (right click on sequence -> batch import). This way, the media will be created from the original ama files.

December 28, 2011 at 8:35 am in reply to: Converting Canon Footage (QuickTime) to MP2 for Aviddon’t remember if liquid accepts dnxhd. if yes, use mpegstreamclip to convert to dnxhd 185.
In fact, however, liquid is not suited for hd works, i’m afraid

in fact, I have two systems, one based on hm65 (intel) and one on 880g (AMD) and both of them work with shuttle, but both of them have NEC / Renesas usb3

ama plugin for quicktime dslr should be included in 6.0 download.
If you need avchd or any other, on the other hand, you must go to avid website and search KB for the download link to ama plugins.

[Dustin Schmitt] “-Avid does not support MultiCamera eding with AMA clips
-You should not mix workflows. Either use the AMA method or use the traditional import/batch import method”In fact, i’m editing with MC 6.0 clips coming from avchd (canon hf200) and from canon 7d.
avchd was really heavy so I did a transcode after ama linking to the clip, while 7d were only linked by ama.
Then, I grouped the clips using in points (so, dnxhd 185 for avchd transcoded clips + quicktime h.264 linekd by ama) and begin editing in multicamera… and it works.
It’s a little heavy (perhaps worse because an intensity shuttle was plugged in, will investigate) but the multicamera was working as expected, even if there were mixed workflows AND mixed formats (ama linked into a multicamera group).I am pretty sure it’s the same with media composer 5.0, as I used multicamera with 7d + p2 files, and at least the p2 (dvchd) were surely linked, while don’t remember if 7d were linked or transcoded.
—————-
regarding the workflow, you have the option to:
– work with ama linked (no transcoding, no heavier use of disk space, lower performances)
– ama link then transcode (this way the transcoding is FASTER than importing)you can also do a rough edit with ama linked files, then a transcode to dnxhd 36 for offline edit, then do a “batch import” of the sequence to dnxhd 185 (or 185x if there is much color correction) for online.
Or work directly in 36 then batch import.
Or work in 36 then relink to original h.264 filesSo, you have plenty of options as workflow, depending on you machine spec and time needed.
JUST A FINAL NOTE
As it seems you’re not familiar with ama or media composer ama linking, take care of this:
if you transcode to dnxhd 36 for offline, you SHOULDN’T transcode the sequence to dnxhd 185 for offline. This way you will get only a bigger file but will be originating from dnxhd 36 transcoded media.
To use higher quality media, you have to do a BATCH IMPORT of the sequence, this way the transcoding will be done from the original h.264 media.
right click on SEQUENCE and select batch import. This will transcode only the clips you used in the sequence.

December 15, 2011 at 8:59 am in reply to: Can I collect all media used in a timeline in Avid Media Composer?there is also another option.
open tools->media tool, select “all drives” on right panel, and the project you are working in in the left, it will open ALL the media of this tool (even the precompute if you checked this, the media and so on).
Then, you can select all of them and copy to another bin -
There could be probably a faster approach, but a workaround is to use the fillers.
instead of stepping in, you create a clip of the same lenght in a track over the clip you have the nested effects in. then, you go to the effect you want changed, open effects editor and drag the icon of the effect (this way you copy the effect) to the filler. after that, you delete the effect in the clip, then copy or add the effect you have in the filler to the clip in the position you want in the nest.
when I was writing this answer, I found a faster way (available only if the effect have same number of originating tracks): open effect editor in the lower node then drag the effects to the order you want

December 14, 2011 at 7:37 pm in reply to: Modify MARK IN and MARK OUT in actual BINI think you could use avid log exchange (perhaps will have to relink after that)

sorry it didnt work for you Peter.
If you whant to know, I’m using an intensity shuttle via usb3 (so I can use both in laptop and in desktop) and it’s working even if it’s not documented in avid mc6
