It seems I cannot post it where I got the quote from due to forum rules and restrictions. You will have to google it.

    I do believe it can:

“New advances in the HPX370 include one-clip REC function that records up to 99 consecutive cuts as a single clip, greatly facilitating nonlinear editing”.

April 14, 2010 at 2:45 pm in reply to: HVX200A Feature Film Final Trailer

    Hi Rosh,

I just watched both the trailers for you movie and congratulations on completing your project.

I wanted to give you my opinion on the trailers, please take this as a constructive criticism. My observation is purely based on the technique you edited the trailers and not the content (which I think is a very powerful subject).

Trailer 2: has no continuity and is cut poorly to one-liners that appear to have a flow in the story.

The basic premise of developing the story is not there, where you cannot identify any of the characters or their relations.

The dynamics of the scenes are overshadowed by the randomness of the shots.

The music while appropriate does not complement the scenes.

Trailer 1: Basically has no story, just a bunch of random shots.

I felt compelled to write because from what I understand you have made a very good movie with a very important topic and I don’t want to start a trailer bashing thread. I believe your film has a lot of potential but a trailer can make or break a film. At this point I feel your trailers are counterproductive to your film and need to be re-done by someone who has expertise in cutting movie trailers.

I hope you wont be offended by my remarks, I do believe that you can have a fantastic trailer with the content you already have…it just needs to be redone.

    Cheers,

April 13, 2010 at 1:31 am in reply to: green screen height

In my opinion 10 feet is too short and 14 feet more desirable. You will find the further you get back from the green screen to prevent spill, you really need height and width to get proper framing.

We use Kinoflo green/blue (420nm/520nm) bulbs to light our green screen because it makes the post process very fast, your clients might see that inconsistent lighting might make post more complicated and maybe choose someone else.

  • I recently did a corporate video that starts out with 2 girls and their blog about going off to college.

    https://vimeo.com/9605948

The opening sequence is a combination of handheld footage matched to larger cameras we used for the “explosion scene”. The idea was to give the candid, non-pro approach.

I use Avid w/P2 and probably can help you but one last question first:

-are you software only or what hardware do you have?

There is also another manufacturer that is making geared heads as well:

    https://www.gearnex.com/

The price might be a little bit more favorable but I have not had a chance to demo one. But I do love the Arri heads and those lonely nights of practicing with a laser pointer, trying to draw perfect figure eights on the wall. Oh the humanity…..

    Hey Mark,

Can you tell us more about the problems you are having, we are moving from VXA to LTO so any insight you have would be helpful.

I dont think solid state is there for cost effectiveness yet.

The best alternatives is digital tape based systems like VXA or LTO.

VXA is probably the most cost effective where LTO is more the industry standard. You can purchase a starter system for $500-$600 and bill the clients for the tapes (just google “VXA3”).

John is 100% correct, I have worked on similar high end FX shots and we charge a lot of money for that stuff.

We use Motion control rigs with timed movements and roto all background plates. Than we composite all the elements together very meticulously.

It is not easy or cheap. Listen to John, anything else will look cheap and corny.
