Since going Digital/tapeless we have replaced these terms:

Filming = Compiling
Speed = Write data
Print that = Archive that
Dailies = Instantenouses
Video tap = Lets give a monitor to the kraft services so they can tell us what they think about our lighting.
Bad Directing = DIT screwed up my scene
Producer = Do really need to rent another P2 card?

Heed all the advices listed above, at the same time SD302 and HVX200 work very well together. We have both and got great results.

As stated earlier you can just shoot HD with the 200 as there is no cost difference. As far as the which format to shoot for P2 workflow can be a trick proposition.

We generally shoot 720 23.976 and mix it up with 1080i and 720 60P when needed. We have a lot of experience and completely understand the workflow we will follow, when we start a project.

If this is is your first time with P2 and mixed formats definitely stick with 1 format and frame rate. Talk with an experienced op who knows P2 workflow.

There is nothing you cannot fix, it just takes time and money.

Hi there,

We have filmed a few spots for cinema release before trailers. The process is not any different as you broadcast off a digital projector not 35mm film.

The first step you need to do is determine which company you will advertise with a s they determine the spec for you to deliver.

For example if you are going through screenvision fits you goto:

You will see they outline very clearly what you need to deliver to them. If you have any questions call them, they all have client support reps and they can answer all your questions.

Aside from the technical specs read their rules for approved content.

Can you fill us in about the format, camera and lights you have at your disposal. The advice might vary if you are using a DV versus a High end HD camera.

I dont know how well that would cover you but my insurance is specifically for our profession and cover video/film gear. I send them a equipment schedule to declare what I own. That way if something happens to anything they look to see if I actually owned it and I have to present a receipt/rental agreement to prove it.

There are many clauses like “criminal mischief,mysterious disappearance, wheather conditions…..etc” that protect the insurance companies.

You might want to double check how they determine what qualifies as “in your possesion”. Otherwise it would be really easy to do fraud.

Hi Todd,

I am a little surprised that your insurance company does not cover this long term or conveniently enough.

I am in the same set up as you are and have all my own gear.

I have insurance through fireman’s fund and have a basic package of 25K built in for equipment rental(only). Last year I had to get 200K of gear for rental for a few gigs and it took 1 phone call. In 1 day I had my limit raised to 200K, had a pro rated adjustment to my policy and they faxed a copy of the coverage to the rental house.

I also had the option to cancel or reduce the coverage anytime I wanted and they would refund me the pro-rated difference.

Maybe you should talk with Firemans Fund and see what they can offer.

No it’s very easy.

FCP 5 you have to set the format by hand.

FCP 6 you drag the footage to the timeline and regardless of the settings it asks you if you want to conform to the settings to match the footage.

It’s that simple.
