  • Is there any chance I could damage the HVX by connecting a mixer?

I’m going to experiment with a SD302 field mixer and the HVX. I have very little experience with the HVX and zero experience with the SD302. Is there any chance that I can damage either the mixer or the camera while connecting them together with a Lav or boom and playing with the settings?

    Thanks.

There is always a chance of blowing a channel when plugging gear together… Read the manuals and hire a qualified sound guy..

I watched a friend with 30 years in video blow a channel of his DVCPro deck when he plugged in the audio feed from the sound guy, who was on another contract and boss, claim everything was ok before he had the mics and the speakers feeds all tweaked…

As long as you keep the output settings on the mixer the same as the imputs on the camera you will be fine. In other words, if you have the mixers outputs on line level, make sure the inputs on the camera are set to line level as well. Also, MAKE SURE THE LIMITER IS SET TO ON OR IN, ON THE MIXER.

There is a lot to know about audio; if you want good audio, you need to ether hire a professional sound mixer, or learn and study as much as you can about sound production.

Heed all the advices listed above, at the same time SD302 and HVX200 work very well together. We have both and got great results.
