    So a new producer I just introduced into the glory of P2 workflow today gave me the usual humor today about what to say to me to start “rolling” before he says action. I’ve joked around it before but then it became an obsession by the end of the shoot day to figure out the best phrase for the P2 equivalent of Roll Tape, or Come up to Speed. And then for what my response should be.

    What is everyone else using as a fun alternative to these normal yet “old fashioned” concepts?

    Thanks,

    Chris

    [Chris Baldwin] “What is everyone else using as a fun alternative to these normal yet “old fashioned” concepts? “

    all are good

    “Rolling” is still accepted as the default
    “Speed” has been used for years with DS sound
    “Ready” always works.
    “Recording” is what I use.

    It gets down to letting everyone on set know you are ready, whatever term you use, some even become staples in the industry- think of the term M.O.S.
    -many people think MOS stands for either “Mit Out Sprechen” or “Mit Out Sound,” a broken-English phrasing meaning “Without sound,” as a 1920s German-emigré director might have said it but really it was meant as “motor only sync”

    We say speed though with pre-roll even that’s a bit of a misnomer. 🙂 Say ‘Noah’ instead, that will make you feel good.

    Ahh I think it would be fun though to come up wit a unique way of asking for the digital capture to start. words like capture, digatize, even energize are all fun but not quite right.

    Energize like ion star trek is close, do they say anything in Tron?

    Yes a rediculous question not a dire problem but it’d still be fun to coin a term together that further differentiates (ie makes us better than) tape based shooters.

    Ingesting is a fairly new word in the biz. but then that might make everyone’s mind think about lunch and it could be counter productive.

    Since going Digital/tapeless we have replaced these terms:

    Filming = Compiling
    Speed = Write data
    Print that = Archive that
    Dailies = Instantenouses
    Video tap = Lets give a monitor to the kraft services so they can tell us what they think about our lighting.
    Bad Directing = DIT screwed up my scene
    Producer = Do really need to rent another P2 card?

    🙂
