I am using Avid MC 6.5 and could link with AMA the .mov with the XDCAM codec from files that came from FCP.

So if you are using Avid download the AMA plugin for XDCAM from the Avid site and there you go.

What is this $1,500? Is the Linux Software version only?

Is that possible to buy the software only version of Resolve as for MAC for the same price for a single based workstation?

    That surely will be excellent.

I have nothing against MAC, Win or Linux. I am doing business and if a Resolve version comes for MAC. I am more interested in what I can get of the equipment, more than the wrap.

We have at the studio a PC with a Kona 3 and the Tangent Wave panel that in just a blaze can be running Linux and have Resolve installed if there is a software only solution like the MAC you are offering.

I will appreciate any info on this.

    Thank you

Why not try a Win7 solution?

There will not be the new Quadro 6000 or 5000 on the new MACs. Told in an interview with an Nvida guy at Siggraph.

Assimilate’s Scratch is now running under Win7 64x taking advantage of this CUDA technology.

And the hardware is the hardware. I can´t imagine why Resolve will be better on OSX than Win7.

While you can have a PC with 24 cores right now. Two Xeon dual six core. And the GTX 480 or a Quadro 6000 if you want with an SDI option.

HD link works the same in a PC than a MAC.

    My personal opinion.

Well, I’ve been watching Siggraph videos.

Interesting specially the VFX TV interview with the Nvidia guys.

I think they are all betting for the wrong platform. MAC.

While you can build a rock solid PC app oriented with two Xeons double six core. This means you can have a workstation with 24 cores. And can use the new Nvidia boards 5000 and 6000 Quadro Series with CUDA. The biggest Quadro board you will be able to use on a MAC is the Quadro 4800 and seems they don´t even have the SDI option.

Just for what? A nice interface OS? “No viruses”…

Well don´t agree with this… The Win7 workstations we have here at the studio are rock solid, and we banned the virus problem by not inserting USB memories sticks and having a central unit that scans for viruses external HDD.

So what else gives OSX? What are the true advantages of having a “super MAC” that never arrives and when it does it does not have even USB 3.0

I think that DaVinci’s Resolve will sell equal if it was Win7 64 based as Scratch, that runs very smoothly taking advantage of the CUDA technology.

Seems to me bad aiming for a solid platform with cutting edge technology.

At the end, the Resolve is running now in a PC with Linux not a MAC.

I think if Black Magic aimed at the same time at the OSX and Win7 platform, the Win7 version will be right now in a lot of studios. Specially for $990 and the HD link for another 1k.

The only thing is that the MAC “looks more beautiful than a PC”.

The MACS we have here are for opening FC projects that are from our clients, and also for them to surf the web. Just because they are more sight pleasant.

I know I will be punch by MAC lovers. But at the end it is my personal opinion.

Funny I will also try it. Right now I had no problem at all. At first when we just installed the Ultrascope, I compared it side by side with our Tektronix and the Ultrascope showed the same levels with different test patterns. So I gave it the OK.

I will try the test that you are gaving and compare it with both. See what happens.

I built the PC with the hardware specs from BMD… plug in the Ultrascope, started the machine and voilá no problem.

The two main things that I took a closer look was the mainboard specs and the graphics board. Using an Nvidia 9800 GT.

The PC was about $1,300 with the Ultrascope $1,800. A nice solution for a vector and waveform. Taking in acount that a Tektronix is around $3,500. Of course this solution is only for the suites. At our machine room we do have the Tektronix that have a more and deep analisis of the video and audio siganls.

I agree. In fact I started using Dell workstation at first. But then found a good PC supplier, that builds the PC to our specs.

On our 3D and VFX area we build 3 PC with the QuadCore I7 having each machine 8 cores with just one processor, 12Gigs RAM, Caldigit´s VR, Nvidia Quadro FX and Windows 7. At firs we tried to stick to the old faithful xp64, but all new apps are coming to 7. They are fast. We improved our render time by nearly 80% having with three machines 32 processors.

If you only use the system for one purpose it is rock solid.

I still think that Black Magic since the video output boards are the same for MAC and PC, should think of a Windows Resolve option.

Well I know probably a lot of you guys are going to beat me up.

But probably if Black Magic went for the PC Windows option, the Resolve would be on studios today.

While i7 are lurking in PCs from about a year, apple just started to ship them.

Not to mention that you can have up to 24 cores with the new Xeons.

Don´t have to wait for Steve Jobs to pull out the new Macs.

Really don´t know what’s up that now seems that developers are aiming hard for the Mac platform.

I am trying to acquire the Resolve for Mac since it first appeared at BlackMagic’s web site like it was on the market after the NAB.

Last news I recieved from Black Magic is that they still don´t have a release date.

I assure that if Black Magic went for a Windows option also for that price or even Linux, a lot of us would be using the Resolve right now in our studios.

But it is only my humble opinion.
