Thanks graeme! I havent gotten my FCS yet either so i havent seen compressors results. But Ive heard very good things about your plug-ins. And for the price, its a no brainer just to have more than one option at your disposal.

This is fantastic news. Bummer abou the HD but this is still exciting. Gives BM an edge over the Kona 2. This ferature was mentioned somewhere but it was just a small blurp. Maybe they didnt make a big deal about it becuase it doesnt do HD and after all, this is “the year of HD.”

“but the Kona2 might get my dollars based on HD/SD on one card, etc… ”

Um, the Decklink does SD and HD on one card too.

Hey Christopher, your right… I dont know exactly whats comming out of the s-video on the DVX, but its a composite signal. Its definitely not the best solution. As Graeme suggested you could use a DV switcher.

Just wanted to jump in add that I too think its one of the worst web pages out there. Its terribly confusing and they try to “trick” you into buying the standard everytime you think your going to be clicking on a free download… took me a while to figure it out.

short answer, you dont want to use the s-video out of your dvx for anything.

Right Graeme, that was my question…

Im sure there wouldnt be much resolution to gain, more interested in avoiding the DVCPRO HD codec. But how do they “fit” a 4:4:4 signal through USB 2.0, its not fast enough… right? But that seems to be what they are doing.

And would they be able to run a 4:4:4 HD signal using the same technique? Is there enough bandwidth?

  • excuse my ignorance about lenses but why do top of the line still lenses cost ony a few thousand dollars while HD or 35mm motion picture lenses cost tens of thousands?

Im sure the lens construction is more complex in HD lenses but id love to understand a little more about what mkes them different and so much more expensive to manufacture.
