This tutorial explains a similar effect.
And this thread will give you an idea of the rest of the steps needed to dissolve a person.—

Here’s a tutorial that covers that:

I got a similar effect with the Transport 12 emitter from the February 2004 library.
If you reduce its Visibility, and then animate the size of the area emitter so that it grows tall over the course of a few frames, you can get the effect of the tube growing. You can also animate the number graph so that it starts out really high, maybe 2000%, and then goes back to 100% after a second or two. That will give you a much brighter glow as the ball impacts the person and the tube starts growing.

The Number graph is what controls how many particles are born. I always adjust things by eye, but I just did a test and if your particle type’s Number graph is set to 1, and your main Emitter’s Number graph is set to 100%, you’ll get 1 particle per second. 2 will give you two particles per second, etc.

You can also right-click on the emitter in the library and choose Update Image from the menu.

If you hit CTRL+T while in the library or preview window, it will update the thumb.

There are a couple of libraries on my site that should work in SE.

As far as I know any codec you have installed on your system should just be available from the drop down in pI once you install it. I’ve never heard of a local installation of a codec.
Does Windows see DIVX 6 in the list of codecs (It’s under Settings> Control Panel> Sound and Audio Devices> Hardware Tab, then select Video codecs and hit Properties)?
Is there a reason you need to stick with DIVX? XVID seems like a good alternative, I use it regularly now when I need to shoot out a quick preview render or something for the web.

The workflow he’s talking about is something like
1-Render out a clip that you want to add effects to from Vegas2-Import that as a background into pI
3-Add particle effects, hide the background video, and render particles to an image sequence with alpha channel
4- Import the rendered particles into Vegas, composite them with your video
There are a few advantages doing it this way rather than just rendering everything out of pI. One would be that you can use the different blending modes in Vegas to adjust the look of how your particle footage blends with your video footage. Also if you have a 5 minute video, you wouldn’t want to bring the entire thing into pI if you’re only adding particles to one or two seconds of the video.

July 4, 2005 at 5:47 pm in reply to: How do I use PI to make special effects in a movie? (Im new, please help me)There’s very little support for sound within pI, at least you can’t play it back with your clips. But if you’re rendering out to an AVI, check the box that says “Use Audio From Layer” on the Output Options screen and choose the layer your avi is on from the drop-down list. That will stick the sound into the final rendered file.
