When you select the first image in the sequence and import that, pI should ask if you want to import the entire sequence or just the selected image (as long as the images are named sequentially).

The best way I can explain how to do a similar effect is to explain how all the emitters work in my example.
The two emitters named “blocker” are simple squares that have had their Size Y graphs animated so that they shrink down to nothing and uncover the underying background image gradually.
“Riser” and “Faller” are two emitters that simply sprinkle from offscreen to give the illusion that dust is coming down to form the logo.
The “sprinkles” emitters are line emitters with Get Transparency from Layer turned on, and their position has been animated to follow along the edge of the “blocker” emitters. Get Transparency causes them to only appear where the alpha channel of the background image is white, so in this case they appear only where the star is. The sprinkles are what gives the impression that the Riser and Faller particles are filling up the background image.

There’s a DVD on the way very soon. Production of it is all wrapped up, so it’s just a matter of working out the distribution stuff. It’s more of a how to use pI this time around rather than a “how to make effects” one.

Here’s a project I made for NAB that does that, with Aharon’s bird shape.
https://pi.shockingtales.com/zips/crows.zipIt’s really the exact same principles as the disintegration projects, but with an animated shape on the particles that the object turns into. Looks best with motion blur turned on.

pI3 is still a 2D program. The example you mentioned is really just a trick of having two copies of the same emitter on two layers, hiding particles on the upper layer, and making the ones on the lower layer visible. There’s a tutorial about it here:
https://www.wondertouch.com/tutorials/around_01/around.htmIt’s really just a masking trick, so you should be able to do it in any program that has multiple layers and mask/matte tools.
Many of the version 3 emitters are now available for Combustion by the way, though since your problem is with the speed of C3, that may not factor in to your decisions.

The “Panasonic DV codec” is the one that everyone has had success with after installing. Once you install it, you should be able to bring in DV avis with no problems.

There isn’t support for importing or exporting AVIs with alpha channels in pI at this time, so an image sequence is really the only way to go at the moment.

If it’s really hard to see, you might want to increase the Number graphs of the lightsaber emitter. You can also increase the Extra Frames in the motion blur settings, and bump up the Intensity Adjustment.
What format is the video in?

There are a number of lightning emitters in some of the other libraries (the March 2002 users library has some great ones). SE can load all the libraries that were created up until September 2002

October 5, 2005 at 10:25 pm in reply to: Exploring SE version: can I output with alpha for import into Vegas? It’s an easy thing to miss. I tried bringing in a TGA that was rendered in XSI into Vegas, and it was the same thing, so I guess by default it reads TGAs without alphas.
