December 30, 2005 at 11:15 pm in reply to: particleIllusion 3.0.1a Demo and quality of AVi -filepI itself, demo or full version, won’t lower the quality of the final clip, that’s most likely something to do with the compression settings you’ve used. What codec did you use when saving out your final AVI? Uncompressed will give you the best quality but with a huge file size, other good options are the HuffyUV codec, XVID or DIVX at the highest quality setting.

December 30, 2005 at 8:03 pm in reply to: possible to make an effect SLOW MOTION in particle illusion ?In theory, you should be able to slow down a whole emitter by decreasing the Velocity and Weight graphs, and then increase the Life graph. But you’ll find a lot of times just because of the way the emitters were made, that won’t work. It works on my explosion emitters from last year, but I don’t think it works on the ones in the default library, though just decreasing the Life might work on those, since most of it is based on Size Over Life.
I can’t remember Aharon’s trick, but I think it did have something to do with changing the FPS to something high, and then reimporting it as 30 fps. You’d probably have to bump up the motion blur quite a bit as well.

There are some good responses on the subject of pixel aspect ratio from Aharon here

December 27, 2005 at 7:08 pm in reply to: problem with importing my footage to particle illusionparticleIllusion currently has problems with DV formats. This problem is expected to be fixed in the next update of particleIllusion (3.x). As a work around, you can encode your AVI with a non-dv codec, or to a sequence of images (PNGs, TGAs, TIFs, etc.).
You can also download the Panasonic DV codec, which should allow you to bring DV AVIs into pI, but beware! I’ve found that it makes some video editing programs have trouble importing AVIs encoded with certain other codecs (divx, xvid).

I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking for. Can you give us an example?

December 19, 2005 at 9:46 pm in reply to: changing existing texture maps (shapes) in the librariesThat’s one of the tiny features missing from SE, exporting shapes.
But if its a greyscale shape that you want to change, don’t worry about exporting the alpha channel. Most of them don’t have one, they just have black made transparent on import into pI. Just make sure that Shape Type is set to greyscale and that you choose Color and black as your Transparency options when you’re at the Particle Shape Import Options window.

No, it’s something you’d have to fake, by using line emitters to draw out the shape or area emitter shapes.

Right-click on the emitter in the Hierarchy window (the window on the left side of the screen, where the emitters you’ve placed on the stage are listed), not in the Properties window. You’ll get “Make Super Emitter” as one of the options.
Docs = Documentation/help file. Hit F1 to bring them up, there’s lots of info on super emitters there.

The July 2003 has the vines emitter, in the Eki Halkka folder. Make sure that you turn on Don’t Erase in the Project Settings. Otherwise, it’ll just look like a bunch of blips moving around.
You can edit the shapes of the leaves by editing the Size over Life of the bottom particle type.
