There are some hearts floating up in this library that would probably work pretty good. If you don’t like the wobble, you can just crank down the Spin.

Other than changing the Frames to Preload, there aren’t any settings that allow for animation before frame 1.
There’s no way to slide all the keyframes around, but if you paste an emitter at a keyframe other than frame 1, all the keyframes will move too. So if you paste an emitter at frame 31, a key that was at frame 5 originally will now be at frame 35. That’s probably the best way to move all the keyframes in one shot.

That was done by using particles as a displacement map in After Effects. I think Aharon used one of the Ripple-type emitters from the January 2004 library, turned off Get Color from Layer in the emitter’s Properties so that the particles were just white, and then brought that rendered output into After Effects. Then he displaced the video clip with the weirdo in the leather coat with the particle layer.

pI does export the transparency in those formats, but only the transparency of the particles themselves. It doesn’t include any transparency information for the background video/images. So you’d have to export the particles alone, and lay them on top of vader in a paint, compositing or editing program.

Do you get the same problem when using other file formats, like PNG or TIF? If you can render out the same sequence as one of those, that might give us a clue to what’s going on.

The missle itself looks like it’s 3D. The pI portion of that clip is the smoke that goes everywhere.

1- Sounds like your Stage window wasn’t large enough when you hit render. Just stretch out the bars surrounding it so that you can view your project at 100%, or hit Alt+3 to maximize the stage, and that should allow you to render the full frame size.
2- Your frame rate for that clip may be wrong inside Vegas. It usually defaults to whatever the frame rate of the project is. Right-click on the clip and go into its properties, where you should be able to adjust it to whatever it was in particleIllusion.

The Combustion preset may help, since its particles are based on particleIllusion’s.

That movie at the top of the tutorial isn’t exactly the same as what’s described, but the technique in the tutorial is what I used for that smokey dissolve effect. The major differences are that I used a smoke particle shape rather than a dot, changed the direction the particles were moving in so that they went to the side rather than straight down, and faded my video clip out rather than cutting from it to the particles. Whether you’re turning someone into smoke or shattering a logo, they follow the same basic steps described in the tutorial.

No, any of the image formats should load in without any problems, they don’t rely on a codec. Can you load an image in as a Shape?
