You’d have to follow the same basic proceduce outlined in that tutorial, but do it in a video editing or compositing program that allows you to export alpha channels, rather than in pI.

There’s also the open-source Jahshaka, which just put out a new release. Some editing programs should be able to do it too, just so long as you can have more than two video tracks and you can export a clip with an alpha channel.

As much as I’d like to take credit for the bullet fire, Aharon did that one. I just made the bullet hole shapes.
As for the fairies, I started with a fireworks emitter and just messed around for a few minutes. There’s some f-motion randomness added so that they flutter instead of flying straight ahead.

Do you mean Bas Wolter’s tutorial? I can’t be certain, but if you are exporting the PNG sequence with an alpha channel the second time and importing into an editor/compositor that’s reading the alpha channel, then the original sequence may seem to vanish. That’s because though pI exports the alpha channel for the particles, it doesn’t export the alpha channel for a background image. That might explain why it would look like you were getting the original sequence and not the looping one when going out to PNG.

I made some attempts at a similar effect a looong time ago (the request that time was for streaks like the ones Trapcode’s 3D Stroke makes). I never got it quite right, but you can check out the project file here. By adding some high quality motion blur, it may end up looking pretty good.

An alpha channel is a greyscale image that tells you what parts of an image will be transparent. So anything white is solid, anything black is transparent, and anything grey is partially transparent.

We were at Siggraph all week, so the library will be delayed a bit. There were a few whipped up in the booth that I think Alan is planning to include.

What format is the movie in? It’ll need to be either an image sequence or a AVI on Windows or Quicktime on Mac for you to bring it into pI to add effects too. To add particles under an object, you’ll need to render it with an alpha channel, unless Swift allows you to import a clip you create in pI and place that below your objects.

Do you mean a burst of fire in the shape of a phoenix, or an actual firebird flapping and flying around?
