il3 files are library files and aren’t loaded through the File menu. Go into the right-hand library window, right-click and choose Load Library. That will bring up the browser to find your il3s. If you have all your il3 files in the EmitterLibraries folder in the particleIllusion directory, they’ll be available under the Quick Load Library option of the right-click menu.

What version of pI are you using? If you’re using 3, you may need to install the latest update from the downloads page to open the projects.

I’m not sure if this is what you mean, but here’s an example file you can play around with.
I’ve got a background image on the layer that’s hidden, and then a rain emitter with Get Color from Layer checked in its color options so that each particle reveals some of the hidden background image. Then in the Project Settings, I checked Don’t Erase so that the rain drops reveal streaks of the image that stay on screen.

If you look in the Maya Render Settings, under the Image File Output section there should be a Frame Padding box. Change that to 3 or 4 to give yourself some extra zeros.

It’s probably due to the way the sequence is numbered. There should be some frame padding options within Maya’s render settings. Make sure that the render comes out like:
file_0001, file_0002, file_0003, etc.and not
file_1, file_2, file_3 to file_11, etc.
You can grab a free renaming program (I have one named Lupas Rename 2000 that works pretty good) if that is what the problem is. It usually beats renaming the files manually or rerendering.

The Pro Emitters are for 3 only. Quite a few of them use features only available in 3, like super emitters and get color from layer. And there’s no Force object in SE, there are only deflectors.

What browser are you using? I had trouble with Firefox, but it worked with Opera.

Three things you can try to adjust are:
-Size over Life, so that the particles start off tiny and get much, much bigger. You may need to adjust the Size along with this so that you get the right final blast size.-Velocity, lower it so that rather than travelling across the screen, the particles hardly move at all and the Size over Life gives the impression that the blast is moving
-Life, which you’ll probably need to lower so that the particles don’t take too long to go from the gun to the screen.

Just an area emitter with a low Velocity, long Life, and maybe some Motion Randomness.
There’s an emitter called Microbes Area 2 in the April 2001 library that has a nice cell-type shape and might work for you if you just turn down the Motion Randomness a bit.

August 26, 2006 at 3:51 am in reply to: Having problems importing uncompressed avi footage into PIWhat works for me when rendering uncompressed AVIs out of Vegas is to check the box that creates an alpha channel for the AVI. Even though pI can’t use the alpha channel for transparency, that allows it to play back as a background.
Not sure if this will work in AE or Vue, but it may be worth a shot.
