Yes. Save your images out as a sequence of TGA, TIF or PNG files and check the Save Alpha box in the Output Options screen. That will get you a transparent background.

What codec are you encoding the AVI with, that will affect the final quality of your AVI tremendously. And what’s your intention to use the final footage for (for the web, out to an editing program for broadcast, just to view on your own PC)?

There’s an old library of lightsabers here, as well as a tutorial on using them on my website (in my signature).

What compression codec are you using when you save the AVI? By default, you’re probably saving out to uncompressed, which is around a meg a frame for a 640×480 image size. XVID and DIVX are good ones to save out to for viewing purposes.

Could be a video card driver issue. Do you have the latest certified drivers for your card? Actually, what type of video card is it, and do you get a warning about hardware rendering being turned off when you start up the program?

April 6, 2007 at 6:38 am in reply to: What’s the best approach to sloooowwww things down? (newbie)Velocity is the speed in which a particle will move away from the emitter. In the case of the Crazy Squares, the particles aren’t moving so Velocity won’t do anything.
The Life graph is what controls how long a particle is on screen, and the apparent speed of some emitters is really determined by that due to things like the Color over Life gradient, and the other Over Life graphs. If you were to increase Life with the Crazy Squares, then lower the Number, you’d get a lot closer to slowing down the speed of the overall emitter.

Take a blank emitter from the blank library, go into the Properties, check the Intense button, increase the Size by a bit, and maybe adjust the transparency gradient so that it fades in and out. Pick a bit of a colour to match the lights, and you’re ready to go.

The multi-word ones in the super emitters are generally sequences of different words. So you would make a series of words as separate images and save them with a sequential name like “word_001jpg, word002.jpg, etc” then choose the first one in the series as your particle shape. pI will then ask you if you want to import the sequence.

I’d be willing to give it a shot if someone posted a video clip somewhere for me to have a look at.
