Thank you Aharon! You’ve been amazing and so so helpful! I tell anyone who wants to learn After Effects to listen to your podcast!

You’re much appreciated and will be missed by thousands!

Congratulations on your new child and I’m sure you’ll have fun doing whatever you do!

    Best,

That has been happening to me too. And it’s random! I could be rendering a minute long gfx heavy clip without a problem but it will crash constantly on a 20 second very simple gfx clip.

    I’m running AE CS3, Leopard 10.5.2 and QT 7.4.1.

Don’t really know if that is the reason but I’m currently using 4x 2.5 GH PowerPC and I’m switching to an 8 core one over the weekend. Will see what happens and if the same problems happen.

Oh and one more thing… this obviously means you can change your typeface – but make sure it’s a fixed width one.

    Hey Moldyboot

Hope I’m not too late in replying but I’ve actually had to do a job a few months ago that sounds pretty similar to what you are doing.

It was copy based (based on famous quotes by famous people and so the famous people are made of alphabets). I was lucky to stumble upon some cool free presets by Harry Frank from aefreemart.com (https://aefreemart.com/2007/04/14/my-favorite-particular-things/)

With the halftone preset, I changed it to alphabets and had to play around with some of the settings. I have a low-res mpeg here (https://e-xperiments.com/Particles01.mpg)

So with the particles (custom), I created a pre-comp of alphabets A-Z (1 frame/alphabet). With some tweaks here and there Particular works out what goes where.

One things however with fine-lined alphabets on a broadcast monitor is that it will flicker crazily. So I applied a little box blur, motion blur and rendered in fields and it worked.

    Good luck!!

    Hey Moldyboot,

Been to those sites and so grateful that they are there! I’m not great with scripting… too much math – but i am trying to understand it.

I did a test with the method Dave suggested and it’s working great!

I understand that with CS3 you can actually do a 2K output preview with the proper cropping etc. Has anyone tried that out yet? I’m keen to know how much improved the digital film workflow is on CS3.

    Thanks!

    Hey Dave!!

Thanks – seems to work!! Haven’t tested it out on the big screen in davinci yet but i have a good feeling about. Really appreciate the help!!

    Hey Moldyboot,

Where would I apply this script? Is this an expression? I’m very interested to try your option out too.

Thanks everyone for their input and help!!

    Hi Dave

Thanks for the reply – I just have a question:

In this new comp with the horizontal dimension to 3610 (1536*2.35=3610) – do i make the aspect ratio sq pixels or anamorphic 2:1?

And in the new 2K comp that I have the above nested in, sqpixels or 2:1?

    Thanks!!
