  • Nice! Cheers for the info guys! This helps lots 🙂 will have a go with both your suggested values.

Some great deduction there Todd! 🙂

  • Hey Dave,

I basically have lots of slow moving small white dots that fade in from black and move closer towards the screen. I need to add subtle flares to each of these lights.

The way I was thinking was to track a light to each dot and then just apply the flare to the light. Though not even sure how likely that sounds as I am really an AE novice.

I tried the luminance option in Optical flares, though this tracked flares onto the dots instantly, quite a few were off track.

so I’m back to square one :\

  • I usually finish my threads with the solution if I find it. I needed to track flares onto lots of white dots and figured how to do it with optical flares, though it didnt work too well and some of the flares were off.

I actually still need to find out how to do this, so if you know a way would appreciate the help 🙂

  • Think I have this under control now. feel free to delete admins 🙂

    Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Joe – excellent! My bro bought optical flares from kramer a while ago, I completely forgot we had it! This will do nicely 😀

thanks dave 🙂 I just did a search based on what you mentioned and figured the best way would be to animate a maya locator along the paths and export that into AE then attatch the light onto that.

will have a go at this but may need to bump this thread again if I get stuck 😉

    bump!

I’d like to import curves from maya into AE and use them as paths to animate a light/emitter for particular. the 3d curves have a z depth so would this translate into AE ok?

any suggestions would be great and also how does one attatch a light to a curve?

  • cheers guys. I stumbled on the blur channels earlier on so just used that.

dave – cool, I think I may have used that technique before, though wouldn’t it also apply to all the other layers underneath? would be cool to just link the adjustment layer button to certain file layers.
