May 24, 2016 at 5:03 pm in reply to: Avid AMA export – options for mixed format sequencesThank you for the cautionary warning.
I successfully exported a mixed frame rate timeline using same as source export settings in MC 8.5.
The project was set to dnX145 (that’s 1080p 29.97)
I transcoded the AMA linked files which were 29.97 and 23.98 (same resolution) to dnX maintaining the source dimensions and source frame rate. Then exported the timeline using the same as source option with Avid codecs checked. The export for a 30 second timeline took 1 second on a system that would have taken the full 30 seconds to export a custom ProRes quicktime.
I got a lovely 29.97 quicktime file in DNxHD 145 and was happy with the frame rate conversion of the 23.98 clip.

May 18, 2016 at 2:51 pm in reply to: Avid AMA export – options for mixed format sequencesIf I transcode my media inside avid, it transcodes the framerate (lets say 23.98) to the project settings (lets say 29.97) so I can export same as source without any issues.

May 17, 2016 at 8:01 pm in reply to: Avid AMA export – options for mixed format sequencesThank you Shane for a quick and helpful response. I’ve followed many of your FCP posts to help clarify workflows in the past!
Indeed, I was becoming suspicious that I was inappropriately applying FCP and Premiere concepts to an Avid workflow.
I will test a mixed DNx transcoded timeline and post back.
Thanks!

Hey Jeff,
The download link in the discussions.apple forum no longer works. What version of the FCP 7 Canon xf plugin did you download? Was it, xpfm-1-4-0-9-9l.dmg.gz
as shown available on canon’s website: https://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/professional/products/professional_cameras/cinema_eos_cameras/eos_c300#DriversAndSoftware
I’m also editing in FCP 7 on a new mavericks iMac and want to use the Log and Transfer tool to import C300 media.
Cheers,

If the ProRes codec is 10 bit and Prores LT works at a datarate of higher than 50mbps (which is what C300 records at) what is the advantage of ProRes regular or HQ? Could you explain this to me? There are an incredibly diverse range of opinions on what is better and why and for what end.

Thank you for your answer Shane. Much appreciated.

November 2, 2011 at 6:09 am in reply to: replacing H264 media with ProRes in ProRes sequence – render bars won’t go away.Harris,
This is what I think I remember that I ended up doing. I replaced my files in Adobe Premiere first before exporting the XML.
This doesn’t explain why FCP is acting out of turn so to speak, but it was my work around.
In more detail, if made the H264 clips offline in Premiere, just by renaming the folder the clips were in. Then reconnected the clips in Premiere to my ProRes clips of the same name.
When I imported that project into Final Cut, using a ProRes timeline, everything was kosher. No render bars.
Hopefully that provides some solace in your dilemma, sir.
Cheers,

June 16, 2011 at 12:20 am in reply to: replacing H264 media with ProRes in ProRes sequence – render bars won’t go away.[Bret Williams] ” So if the original clips were 1440×1080 (like HDV) and you reconnected them to 1920×1080 square clips, the distort settings wouldn’t change.”
Thanks for you suggestion. Unfortunately, this did not do the trick. The original clips are identical with the clips with which I am replacing them but for their codec. The original and new media are both 1920×1080, square pixel, 23.98. Only the original is H2.64 and the new media is Apple Pro Res LT.
I even made the clips offline first then reconnected them to the new media. When I drag the media into my timeline from the media bin within final cut it show rendering needed. When I reveal that clip in finder and drag it from the finder window directly into the timeline it shows no rendering needed. When I compare these two clips for their motion effects they both have the same settings.
Totally Bizarre and I wonder if it’s not something to do with the way Premiere creates XMLs.

June 15, 2011 at 9:45 pm in reply to: Compressor: Any way to batch remove FCP project from filename? This has stumped me too. The only way around it has been to, as was mentioned, add a custom destination.
However. In the case of file renaming, the software, ‘Name Mangler’ is a free download and has an easy to use remove or replace function which will get rid of those character strings in batches.
Check out:
https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/18487/name-manglerBut I would still like to know if compressor has a function or setting or preference to eliminate the filename tags.

June 15, 2011 at 3:30 am in reply to: replacing H264 media with ProRes in ProRes sequence – render bars won’t go away.[Michael Gissing] “Have you checked in your motion tab to see if there is an distort values or resizing? Try highlighting all and remove attributes – Motion, distort etc”
Hi Michael,
The attributes window has all the attributes greyed out. My scale and distortion values are at 100 and 0 respectively and the video looks right and the pixel aspect ratio is square.
Furthermore, when I reveal the unrendered clip in finder and then drag that clip back into the sequence which shows no red render bar, I checked the motion values and they are identical.
Any other clues?
Thanks for your help.
