    Hi Rich,

To pull pull off the effect that you’re looking for, first create a cube primitive big enough to fit the text onto. Then, create the 6 text objects that you want for each side of the cube. After creating the text, you’ll have to rotate each text piece so that they fit the side of the cube that the text is supposed to go on. Apply a X-rotation for text on the top, and bottom while using a Y-rotation for text on the sides.

Then, you may want to go to the “Views” menu, and select the “Top” Camera angle. This will allow you to position all the text relative to the cube. You can then change the camera angle to any others that may help you position your text easier. Afterwards, group all the text together with the method mentioned in the previous thread, and everything should work out for you.

    Hi John,

Check to see if you have “Use Comp Camera” enabled. If you do, this may cause the camera view to be different than what you see inside of the ProAnimator interface. If you are still having the same issue, try changing the Camera from “Orthographic” to “Normal” and see if this helps.

    Hi John,

To group your objects, go to the Pose Grouping section (located in Pose Actions towards the right hand side of the screen), and select Make Group. If your objects are still rotating independently after grouping the objects, go to the Transition Grouping (located right below “Timing” towards the middle of the screen), and select “Make Hard Group”. After grouping your objects, use the “Rotate Around Common Center” to rotate the logos with the cube.

    Hi John,

If you want to map 4 logos onto a cube, you can do this by just applying texture maps onto each side of a cube.

If you want to take the extruded logos that you created and apply them to each side of a cube, that’s possible too, but you would need to rotate the extruded logos so they fit onto each side of the cube. Then, after positioning the extruded logos to each side of the cube, move all of the logos and the cube to the same Object Track. After all of the logos have been placed in the same Object Track, group all of the objects together. By keeping all of the objects grouped together, all the logos will rotate or move together with the cube.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Mark,

I don’t have a set release date for the tutorial, but it might be released some time this month, of possibly by next month. Joe Mason will go over how he created the clip of the virtual set.

    Hi Steve,

The demo version should not make your project run slower than the retail version.

The reason for slowdown would possibly be because the object is really large, and maybe really complex as well. In this case, you may want to turn the resolution of After Effects to Half, and turn the 3D Invigorator layer to Draft. Also, be sure to leave the Draft Object Faceting value as “3.0” or higher.

September 8, 2010 at 5:07 pm in reply to: 3D flag and AE CS5

    Hi Alan,

3D Flag is not 64 compatible at the moment. This is why you are not seeing 3D Flag within After Effects CS5. We are currently converting our plug-ins so that they are 64-bit compatible. At the moment, they are compatible with After Effects 6.5 – CS4. If you have After Effects CS4, you can try downloading the latest version of 3D Flag (1.5) and see if you are still running into the same rendering issue there.

As far as the 3D Flag FX, this plug-in will only work in Motion and FInal Cut Pro. 3D Flag FX will not work with After Effects CS5.

    Hi Mark,

You will need to make all the texture map changes in Photoshop before importing it into ProAnimator. Texture maps are set to fit in ProAnimator. So any map you apply onto an object will automatically be stretched to fit the shape.

    Hi Mark,

You’re in luck. We’re releasing a series of tutorials by Joe Mason that will cover creating virtual sets in 3D Invigorator/ProAnimator. In the mean time, I’ll do my best to answer your questions so you can get started.

Depending on what your virtual set looks like, you may need shapes from both Illustrator and ProAnimator primitives as well. You can use primitives to create simple walls and boxes, but you may need Illustrator to create more advanced shapes.

For bumpiness, look into our manuals. It covers bumpiness. Basically, use white for areas that you want to “pop” and use dark (black) for areas you want to recede.

You will be able to use both After Effects cameras, as well as the After Effects lights. The After Effects lights will give you more flexibility as you can create spot lights in your scene. You can get shadows by turning on the “Casts Shadows” options in the Light settings.

    Best.

September 8, 2010 at 4:33 pm in reply to: lens flare

    Hi Bill,

Sure, you can integrate any of the After Effects effects such as Lens Flare with your 3D Invigorator objects. So, this means you can apply Lens Flare, and have it traveling across your 3D objects.

    Edward
