That tool already exists. Look at the ‘Extract Good Clips’ tool in Excalibur. Just pop a series of regions around the good sections (mark them all up front), run the tool, and it will pull out all those “good” pieces onto a new track at the push of a button.

You’ve docked them together. Look at the little dots in the upper left corner. Click and drag the preview screen away from the docking area. Now drag it back making sure it docks beside the mixer instead of with it.
Depending on the version of Vegas you have, you may be able to go to View, window layouts and then reset it there.

Check what ripple mode you’re using. Make sure you’re set to ripple EVERYTHING.

#1: Make sure the bitrate you use is appropriate for the length of your video so the file size is small enough.
#2: Render the audio separately as AC3 instead of embedding it in the MPEG2 file and it won’t need to be recompressed.

It may be possible that it’s simply re-opening your files. Go to Options – Preferences and turn off the “Close media files when not the active application” option and then see how it works.

Were you nesting a VEG file? In that case it builds the SFAP# file which does something different. Sounds like you may have simply dragged a VEG file to the timeline which NESTS it instead of OPENING it.

My bet is that it’s not “rendering”. Instead, it’s probably building the peak file so it can display the audio waveform.

It is. Basically the “U” will UNGROUP as Dave mentioned then they’re two separate pieces. You can also go into the preferences and set the option to let cut/copy/delete effect only the selected piece instead of both as well. That would also be in the manual.

Options – Preferences – Display tab – check or uncheck the box that reads “Display timeline at bottom of main window”
