Depends.

If the DVD is encoded with PCM audio then you can simply drag the VOB file to the Vegas timeline and it will read it.

If the audio is AC3, you’ll get video but no audio so you’d have to use another program to convert the audio into something Vegas can read (i.e. WAV).

However, MPEG is NOT a good editing format so you may want to convert it back to DV-AVI. One way to do that is via DVD Ripping software. Another way is to simply capture as normal playing the DVD in a DVD player converting it to firewire using the pass-thru on your camera, for example.

James, I don’t have a ready solution for you but CAN say that I have not experienced those problems over multiple machines.

Did you try with Media Manager turned off?

Create the bubble in a paint program with a transparent background. Add to a track above the video.

I don’t know Apple Motion so I can’t compare… but:

All three are directly integrated with Vegas.

Graffitti light comes with Vegas but only runs in standalone mode.

Yes. Save the project, exit Vegas, Restart Vegas, load the project, run Quake again. Repeat.

The problem is that Quake is a DLL file and some underlying thing in the scripting changed that causes this problem. Many have been updated to work around this problem such as Excalibur, Veggie Toolkit, Ultimate S, etc… Others, such as Quake, have not.

Add an effect to the event and then see if it will. It can be any effect and set to “do nothing”.

Is your sound card and firewire card sharing resources? Can you move the firewire card to a different slot and see if it still does that?
