  • Thanks so much. I just tried the stencil option & it works perfectly. Just what I was looking for.

“your only real option for better OpenGL performance is to order the ATi X1900 G5 Edition” Really?? I did have the info about the 7300 wrong. It’s the NVIDIA 7800 I was thinking of. The G5 Quad has PCI Express slots, it was the only G5 to have them. G5 Quads were shipped with NVIDIA 6600 and NVIDIA 7800s. You can’t buy the 7800 from Apple it looks like. But, as you say, I could get it somewhere else.

Thanks Elvis, if the 7300 works well for you then that’s exactly the kind of info I was looking for! I’ve heard the 7300 is substantially better at OpenGL than the 6600. With Macs NVIDIA does not put out driver updates. Such things are left to apple (& yes I have the latest osx version).
Thanks again, I’ve got a new question (posted above) hopefully you will have some wise insight!

December 1, 2006 at 5:32 pm in reply to: easy question about alphas (I hope!)

Hi Steve, the idea is to have a finished quicktime with a alpha channel that is different. I plan to take this quicktime into another app where I need the alpha to be different than the animation. I don’t need this alpha to be used in AE so the luma matte idea wouldn’t solve the problem.

thanks for the suggestion though. Any other ideas?
