Hi I was wondering if anyone here uses PI3 with NVIDIA GeForce 7300? I am finding PI3 very slow using NVIDIA GeForce 6600 card on a mac (g5 quad) and was considering upgrading for $150 to the GeForce 7300 if it would help with speeding up PI3. Any GeForce 7300 users out there?

    -thanks for all your help,

I have a GeForce 7300 with 256mb on my PC, and it works great with pI. Though it was about 3 years since my last video card upgrade, so it’s hard for me to say how a 6600 would compare to a 7300.

Could it just be a driver issue? Have you tried the latest certified drivers?

Thanks Elvis, if the 7300 works well for you then that’s exactly the kind of info I was looking for! I’ve heard the 7300 is substantially better at OpenGL than the 6600. With Macs NVIDIA does not put out driver updates. Such things are left to apple (& yes I have the latest osx version).
Thanks again, I’ve got a new question (posted above) hopefully you will have some wise insight!

The nVidia 7300 only works with the Mac Pro, not the Quad G5. I’m sorry, but your only real option for better OpenGL performance is to order the ATi X1900 G5 Edition. It’s not available direct from Apple, but resellers such as OWC and Small Dog have it. It’s also available direct from ATi.

“your only real option for better OpenGL performance is to order the ATi X1900 G5 Edition” Really?? I did have the info about the 7300 wrong. It’s the NVIDIA 7800 I was thinking of. The G5 Quad has PCI Express slots, it was the only G5 to have them. G5 Quads were shipped with NVIDIA 6600 and NVIDIA 7800s. You can’t buy the 7800 from Apple it looks like. But, as you say, I could get it somewhere else.
