Thanks. I found a project file I downloaded off the Adobe site which is decent, but not what I really want. The fire in Wizard of Oz is sorta rolling balls of fire going upward.

Try the mosaic effect and play around with all the settings, such as number of horizontal and vertical blocks, blending mode (try difference, perhaps), and “mosaic” preset with cc toner.

I deal with some 24p video shot on my Panny DVX-100B often in AE, and I have always just right-clicked on the video in the Projects area, selected “Interpret Footage”, “Main…”, and “Guess 3:2 pulldown” before I begin working. This always seems to have worked for me. I don’t use the “24pa” button, as this is the advanced 24p, which I do not shoot in. Does this have anything to do with what you are talking about? [I got sorta lost in your discussion].

Personally, without getting into the Mac Vs. Windows long-running argument, I would go with a Mac Pro desktop (not laptop), with 8 gig of RAM (if you can afford it) and minimum two dual CPUs. Mac’s OS (Leopard) is Unix-based and is a more stable, and a better operating system (my opinion). I am about to purchase a MAC Pro and upgrade my Adobe CS2 Pro Video suite using a cross-platform upgrade ($799), as Adobe has told me this is supported.
