I didn’t think you were, Atari. My point is that JVC does not shoot interlaced in HDV mode, 1080 or 720. It only shoots interlaced in SD (480, as in 480i). This is directly from the specs for the camera on JVCs site:
VTR Section – Video – Recording Format:
720/24p,720/25p,720/30p,576/50p,480/60p,480/24p,480/60i

Let’s start with this: You shot 1080i with a JVC HD-110? How’d you do that? JVC would probably like to know too. 🙂

[Atari Norris] “I have FCP 5.1.4 and I’m capturing via Firewire from JVC GY-HD110U. The tapes were shot in 1080i at a frame rate of 24. That is what my camera is set at now. In FCP 5.1.4, the closest settting is a frame rate of 24, but 1080p, not i. When I import under these settings, the clip in my browser window always comes in at a Frame Size of 1280×720, and a Vid Rate of 23.98 fps. The compressor also says HDV720p24. My understanding is that 1080i24 is the highest quality choice. Why is this happening? How can I fix it? And is capturing all my footage in 1080i24 the best way to log if that’s how the tapes were shot? Thank you so much for your help.”

This is one of my pet peeves; Someone has an emergency
“Help ASAP!!!!!!!!”, they get 2 answers, one of them almost 3 hours later, but no acknowledgement from the person in such dire need of help. Maybe they did a search, maybe it wasn’t such an emergency. I know that, for me, when I hear the “I need help now!” plea, I don’t necessarily react right away (maybe because I remember the “boy who cried wolf” story). 🙂

Have you done a search? This has been asked hundreds of times, and answered at least that many times. Do a search in this forum and the Compression forum. If you don’t get an answer (you’ll get a lot of answers) come on back and be more specific (who is your audience? do you think they’re mostly PC or Mac, or split? how fast are the connections, do you want high bitrate to maintain quality, or do you need to reach a broad audience, some of whom may not have very broad bandwidth?)

Yes, a PCI-E slot. The benefit is you get a separate buss, no slowdown to FW400 if you have bothe FW400 and 800 on your built-in FW ports. You can get them with 2 or 4, you can also get USB2, FW400, and FW800 on the same card I think. They’re everywhere Other World Computing, Weibetech, any Mac on-line store, etc.
And finally, yes, it goes back to FW800.

You don’t say what kind of drive you’ll be capturing to. The best codec generally is 8bit uncompressed. If you’re trying to save space or that FW800 drive (or something as slow as it) is what you’re capturing to, then the DVCPro50 codec is the best. It looks pretty much like UC, but will play back without a RAID.
Are your settings matching your connections? You should give more information if you expect anything more than a vague general answer.

[Anthony C] “I need to digitize footage that was shot on beta SP froma pro deck. They have decklink Pro to a Mac Pro. What are the best codec settings to set up in the codec tab window. I will be exporting to a firewire 800 HD. Also when I open up the log and capture window thw window opens, but I don’t see the footage. Even after I log clips and hit batch I don’t see the footage.”
