Hey Aymie,
Have you looked at a small RAID setup like the ESPro from G technologies, …or not sure which platform you are on …maybe a Promise Technologies RAID, would be a good setup.
There are tons out there…Also you might be in line for a MLOGIC or a LTO Archive system to keep your stuff organized and have peace of mind.
take care

April 5, 2013 at 5:00 pm in reply to: Need a recommendation for an offboard video recorderHey Angelo,
So the ATOMOS Samurai would be a better bet for you…FastForward has the SIDEKICK, not sure about the DNxHD on that one…and if you have a good budget..the PIX240 from Sound Devices is a solid piece of hardware.
Hope this helps.

Bob, is so right! For sure you have to have your list or you will be crushed with info..and you will just end up overwhelmed(happened to me on my first NAB oh so long ago) If you can get a resller to get you a manufacturer appt, then you may be able to get your answers quicker. The NAB app is great for getting around, and the guys are right, have the good breakfast, maybe a midday snack and go for a good dinner. I also try to stay til Thursday and spend Thursday afternoon at the pool, writing my blog while everything is fresh in my mind, and it gives me some good winddown before I jump on the plane! And a cache of Tylenol is a mans best friend, to keep up with the Vegas experience Bob is talking about. Hey Bob, hope to see you at Centre Bar on Monday..travel safe!

I survived 1 booth with Bob 2 years ago …best frickin 1/2 hour at NAB ever!!! I recently went from Operations Manager to selling equipment(crazy???) I went last year for the first time as a Sales guy.. I felt like it was my first..after all those years of disciplining myself..on concentrating on my top 10-15..I was all over the map..just wanted to say to the guys that are going for their first time…LISTEN TO RON…LISTEN TO BOB…OR YOU’LL HATE YOURSELF THE MINUTE YOU STEP BACK ON THAT PLANE BACK HOME!
Looking forward to the show.Earle

[Bob Zelin] ” just had a client lose all his data on an 8 bay – he saw the RED light flashing on the array, and the ATTO SAS EVEN HAS OCCURED – DRIVE 2 HAS FAILED – but did NOTHING ABOUT IT (what is your explanation about that Eric ? ) – and then had ANOTHER DRIVE FAIL (it was RAID5), so they lost all their data, and only called after the second drive failed. Didnt’ they notice the red flashing light on the array, indicating a failure – dont’ you think they might have called me to ask “gee, what’s that red light mean” (yes, they were trained on all of this 2 years ago) -“
Hey Bob, sometimes you can’t save them from themselves…hey maybe you should get them a Cache-A.
Hope all is well.. hope to see you in Vegas at Centrebar..take care

I checked that link…it looks like this is just a push/pull solution..not really sharing of media…am I missing something?
Getting the feeling that researching this,(maybe a quick call to Facillis) would not be the best use of my time….especially during the Christmas Season…..might reccomend other solutions.
thanks guys

Hey Michael,
I’ve looked around, but found nothing solid in writing…you don’t have a link for me to go and research do you?

Hey Bob,
Right iSCSI…back to the drawing board. thanks for taking the time(as always). I will continue my research I’ve heard that it is not reccomended to put Pro-tools on the same system as a video shared storage unit, because Protools writes a new file everytime you touch a source file(some say its just session files)…have you ever heard anything like that?…oh by the way, really like what you’re saying about Cache-A, to me it’s just a little bit of peace of mind for the data weak of heart.
take care
