If you don’t want to see any burn ins at all, turn them off in the Data Burn In area on the Color page.

If you just don’t want them to be rendered, on the Deliver page, select None for the “Data burn in preset”.

With the Radeon card, you need to use OS X 10.8.3 to avoid GPU artifacts in the image.

  • The join clip function only works with clips associated with the same source media file. So once the scene detector puts separate clips into the Media Pool, the join function will not work on those.

So try this. Detect your clip. Using the menu icon in the upper right of the Scene Detect window, select Save EDL. Then exit the scene detect, and put your clip into the media pool. On the Conform page, select File / Import AAF, EDL, XML… and import the EDL you created above. This will split your single clip into multiple clips on the conformed timeline. Now you can both split and join clips on that timeline.

Once you use an EDL to conform the single source clip, you will notice that any color correction you make on a clip will be reflected on all the clips. That’s the default behavior, to base color grades on the source file. Since it’s a common source file for all the clips, they all get the grade applied. To change this behavior, right click on any thumbnail on the Color page, and select the “Use Local Grades” menu. This will break all the clip grades away from the source file, and allow each clip to have a unique local grade.

  • Here’s what seems to be happening, though I don’t know why.

When you adjust the trackball indicator with the mouse, it appears to be also changing the master gain. If you make a panel adjustment and save it in a mem, then make a mouse adjustment to put the indicator in the same place and save a mem, then lower the Master wheel on the GUI, you can get the same values with the indicator at the same point, as you do with the panel.

I thought this might be related to the Lum Mix setting, but it’s not.

Perhaps someone on the development team can comment.

If you are really using Resolve Lite 9.1, on a Mac, it has issues with DNxHD files not being recognized. Only 9.1 Lite for Mac had this issue. You should be using the current 9.1.3 Lite version available on the BMD web site.

May 8, 2013 at 10:30 pm in reply to: Old databases crashing

Resolve 9.1.3 has a potential issue with PostgreSQL databases. If the particular user has 2 projects in the database with the same name but different case, i.e. Test and test, Resolve 9.1.3 will crash when you log in as that user. This will be fixed in the next release. In the meantime, you can either revert to Resolve 9.1.1, or stay with 9.1.3, login as a different user, and in the Project Manager page, Import the required projects from the bad user to the current user, by selecting the soccer ball looking icon in the lower left.

You might take a look at this. It’s a free download, and you can convert a few LUTs with it, before you have to pay for it. This will allow you to see if it might convert your LUT formats to a DaVinci 3D .cube LUT format.

Hi Robert, I would PM you this, but I don’t see a way how. I’ve sent a reply twice to your davincihelp message, and it says your email address is not valid.

Basically, I suggested you update to 9.1.1, which has performance improvements and will hopefully work better for you.

January 23, 2013 at 11:26 pm in reply to: fcpx davinci resolve path problem?

We only recommend the HD5770 and GT120 cards be used as GUI display cards for Resolve.

That said, if you have HD files, those should load and work in Resolve with just the HD5770 card. If you did a bunch of crazy parallel node structures, you might exceed the 1GB VRAM capacity. But to just load the media with a single node on the Color page, yes, that should work fine with the HD5770 card.

If you are loading HD clips into the Media Pool, and you have the Resolve Timeline resolution set to HD, and you are getting the error message, my best guess would be it’s an OS issue of some sort. Are you running in 64 bit mode? Resolve 9 and higher requires OS X to be in 64 bit mode. The default mode for OS X 10.6.8 is 32 bit mode. If you are in 32 bit mode, that is the problem.
